8returns ‑ Returns portal vs PMO: ProtectMyOrderfor Shopify (2026)
8returns ‑ Returns portal and PMO: ProtectMyOrder both aim to improve the post-purchase experience, but they approach it from vastly different angles. 8returns focuses on streamlining and automating the *returns process itself*, offering a self-service portal, customizable policies, and options for exchanges, store credit, and refunds. It targets merchants seeking to reduce the operational burden of returns and improve customer loyalty through a branded returns experience. PMO: ProtectMyOrder, on the other hand, is about *monetizing services related to potential issues during shipping and returns* by offering premium add-ons like shipping protection, carbon-neutral shipping, and free returns at checkout. It targets merchants who want to increase AOV and provide extra value to customers while retaining a significant portion of the revenue generated from these upsells. The core difference lies in their focus: 8returns optimizes handling of existing returns, while ProtectMyOrder is about adding a profit center by selling optional protection.

Our Verdict
8returns is the better choice for merchants who want to take control of their returns process, reduce manual work, and enhance customer loyalty through a branded returns experience. If you're struggling with high return rates, complex return policies, or want to offer seamless exchanges and store credit, 8returns provides the tools you need.
PMO: ProtectMyOrder is ideal for merchants seeking a quick and easy way to boost AOV by offering optional shipping protection and other premium services at checkout. It's a good fit if you're willing to handle claims yourself and want to experiment with offering value-added services to your customers. The lower number of reviews could indicate it is a newer app, or that fewer merchants are choosing this approach.
