8returns ‑ Returns portal vs Solace Shipping Protectionfor Shopify (2026)
8returns and Solace Shipping Protection both address aspects of returns and post-purchase customer satisfaction but cater to distinct needs within a Shopify store's operations. 8returns focuses on managing the return process itself, offering automation and customization to streamline refunds, exchanges, and store credit options. It aims to enhance the return experience for customers and reduce the operational burden on merchants. Solace, on the other hand, provides shipping protection against loss, theft, or damage, acting as an insurance policy for shipments. It aims to provide peace of mind to both the merchant and the customer by covering these risks, potentially creating an additional revenue stream through revenue sharing on protection policies. The key difference lies in their core functionality: 8returns streamlines *how* returns are handled once initiated, while Solace aims to prevent losses *during* shipping and offers coverage when issues arise. 8returns targets merchants seeking to optimize their returns workflow and improve customer retention through a better return experience. Solace is geared toward merchants wanting to offer shipping insurance and mitigate risks associated with delivery, addressing concerns about lost, stolen, or damaged packages.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants grappling with a high volume of returns and looking to improve the customer experience through a seamless return process, 8returns is likely the better choice. Its focus on automation, customization, and customer retention features offers a comprehensive solution for managing returns efficiently. The significantly higher number of reviews also suggests a more established user base and potentially more robust support.
Conversely, if a merchant's primary concern is protecting shipments from loss, theft, or damage and offering customers peace of mind during delivery, Solace Shipping Protection is the more appropriate solution. While it has fewer reviews, its focus on shipping insurance and potential revenue sharing makes it a worthwhile consideration, especially for businesses shipping fragile or high-value goods where shipping risks are a major concern. A merchant might even consider using both: 8returns for the return process itself *after* Solace's insurance has been used for an issue during shipment.
Common Questions
What is the main difference between 8returns and Solace?
8returns manages the *process* of returns (refunds, exchanges, store credit) once they've been initiated, while Solace protects against loss, theft, or damage *during* shipping.
Which app is better for building customer loyalty?
8returns offers features specifically designed for customer retention during the return process, such as exchanges and store credit. Solace can indirectly contribute to loyalty by providing peace of mind during shipping, but 8returns is more directly focused on this.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
The data doesn't directly compare ease of use. However, 8returns touts full customizability, which *could* imply a steeper learning curve compared to Solace. Without more information, it's impossible to say definitively.
Does Solace actually generate additional revenue for merchants?
Solace claims it allows merchants to monetize through revenue share and replacements. While this sounds positive, merchants should carefully investigate the terms and conditions of the revenue sharing model to understand the potential profitability.
If I want to reduce the number of returns I receive, which app is better?
8returns offers 'Key return analytics to help you reduce return rates.' Solace does not directly address return rates, focusing instead on shipping protection regardless of the reasons for returns.
