ACF: Metafields Custom Fields vs MP ‑ Store Migration & Importfor Shopify (2026)
ACF: Metafields Custom Fields and MP ‑ Store Migration & Import are both Shopify apps falling under the 'Operations' and 'Bulk Editor' categories, but they cater to drastically different needs. ACF focuses on simplifying and enhancing metafield management within a single Shopify store. It allows merchants to create, edit, and manage custom data fields, enabling advanced customization of product pages, collections, and other areas. MP ‑ Store Migration & Import, on the other hand, is designed to facilitate the movement of data between Shopify stores or from other platforms. The key distinction lies in their core functionality: ACF empowers merchants to enrich their existing store with custom data structures and presentations, while MP assists in transferring entire stores or specific data elements from one location to another. While both apps offer bulk editing capabilities, ACF's targets metafields within a store, and MP's targets data migration across stores. This makes ACF ideal for merchants looking to add custom functionality and display custom data, and MP best for merchants undertaking store migrations or data imports.

Our Verdict
Choosing between ACF: Metafields Custom Fields and MP ‑ Store Migration & Import hinges on your specific needs. If you're aiming to enhance your existing Shopify store with custom data fields and advanced presentation options, ACF is the clear choice. It provides the tools to manage and display custom information effectively.
However, if you're in the process of migrating your store from another platform to Shopify or moving data between existing Shopify stores, MP ‑ Store Migration & Import is the better option. Its focus on data transfer makes it the ideal tool for such a task. The higher rating and greater number of reviews for MP might also suggest greater user satisfaction, specifically *for its intended use case*, but this does not diminish the potential value of ACF for its target audience.
Common Questions
Can ACF: Metafields Custom Fields be used to migrate data from one Shopify store to another?
No, ACF is primarily designed for managing metafields within a single Shopify store, not for migrating data between stores. MP ‑ Store Migration & Import is the appropriate tool for this task.
Does MP ‑ Store Migration & Import allow for the creation of custom fields?
MP ‑ Store Migration & Import focuses on transferring existing data, including data from custom fields, but it doesn't offer tools for creating new custom fields. ACF is better for that.
Which app is easier to use for someone with no coding experience?
It's difficult to say definitively without using both apps. ACF, given its advanced customization features, likely has a steeper learning curve. MP, focused on a defined transfer process, may be more user-friendly for non-coders performing migration tasks. Testing both apps (if trials are available) is recommended.
Can I use ACF to import data from a CSV file?
Yes, ACF: Metafields Custom Fields supports importing and exporting metafields, including in CSV format.
Is MP ‑ Store Migration & Import suitable for ongoing data synchronization between two Shopify stores?
While it's not explicitly stated, MP's primary function seems to be a one-time migration or import. For ongoing synchronization, you might need a different app designed specifically for that purpose, which is not either of these apps.
