ACOD: Cash On Delivery COD Fee vs PayRules: Hide Payment Methodsfor Shopify (2026)
ACOD: Cash On Delivery COD Fee and PayRules: Hide Payment Methods both address payment flexibility on Shopify, but cater to distinct needs. ACOD primarily focuses on managing Cash on Delivery (COD) orders by allowing merchants to add COD fees. This is especially useful for businesses wanting to offset the risks and costs associated with COD. PayRules, on the other hand, concentrates on providing merchants granular control over payment method visibility. Its strength lies in enabling rules-based hiding of payment options based on various customer or order attributes, allowing for a customized checkout experience. The primary difference lies in their core functionality: ACOD adds fees to COD orders, while PayRules hides payment methods based on defined rules. ACOD is valuable for merchants who actively offer COD and need to manage associated costs. PayRules is suited for businesses requiring dynamic payment option presentation based on order criteria (e.g., location, product type, order value). While both relate to payment, their applications and target merchants are quite different. PayRules with more reviews potentially indicates a broader user base or a solution to a more common problem. Target merchants for ACOD will likely be in markets where COD is prevalent. PayRules is applicable to a wider range of merchants who want to optimize their payment gateway usage and prevent unwanted payment methods from appearing at checkout.

Our Verdict
ACOD: Cash On Delivery COD Fee is clearly the better choice if your primary concern is managing the costs associated with cash-on-delivery orders. The ability to add fees directly addresses the financial burden of COD, making it essential for businesses that rely heavily on this payment method. If, however, you need more general control over which payment methods are displayed to your customers based on various factors such as location, order total, or product type, PayRules: Hide Payment Methods is the superior option. Its rules-based system allows for a more customized checkout experience.
Ultimately, the selection depends on your specific needs. If you're simply trying to cover COD costs, ACOD is targeted and effective. If you need broader payment option management, PayRules is more versatile, despite a slightly lower rating. The higher number of reviews for PayRules suggests it might address a need that is more commonly encountered by Shopify store owners.
