Addify ‑ Approve New Customers vs miniOrange Single Sign On‑SSOfor Shopify (2026)
Addify ‑ Approve New Customers and miniOrange Single Sign On‑SSO are both Shopify apps in the 'Accounts and login' category, but they cater to vastly different needs. Addify focuses on controlling *who* can create an account by enabling manual approval and tag-based validation, primarily aimed at building exclusive communities or segmenting customer types (like B2B or wholesale). It's ideal for merchants prioritizing exclusivity and granular control over new customer access, even at the cost of slightly increased friction for new users. miniOrange, on the other hand, streamlines the login process via Single Sign-On (SSO) using various Identity Providers (IdPs). It aims to simplify login for both new and existing customers, reduce password fatigue, and integrate with enterprise identity management systems like Azure AD or Okta. The key difference lies in their primary function. Addify focuses on controlling account *creation*, while miniOrange focuses on simplifying account *access* after creation. miniOrange offers features like automatic user creation and attribute synchronization from the IdP, extending its value beyond mere login convenience. Furthermore, miniOrange boasts broader applicability, supporting both B2C and B2B stores, and offers advanced options like single logout, crucial for enterprise environments. While both apps have a 5/5 rating, miniOrange has a significantly higher number of reviews (49 vs. 7), suggesting wider adoption and potentially more robust support and documentation.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing control over who creates an account, particularly those running B2B or wholesale operations and needing to segment users based on tags, Addify - Approve New Customers is the better choice. It provides the necessary tools for manual approval and customer type validation. However, for stores seeking to simplify the login process, especially those already leveraging an Identity Provider like Azure AD or Okta, miniOrange Single Sign On-SSO is the clear winner. Its broad support for various authentication methods, user attribute synchronization, and unified login capabilities make it ideal for businesses focused on efficiency and integration with existing systems.
miniOrange provides an arguably more streamlined and scalable solution for larger stores needing SSO, while Addify is a more niche solution for smaller stores looking for granular control over which customers can sign up.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Addify is likely easier to set up due to its simpler functionality and lack of external IdP dependency. miniOrange requires integration with an external Identity Provider, making its setup more complex.
Which app offers better security?
miniOrange, through SSO, often enhances security by leveraging the security protocols and policies enforced by the integrated Identity Provider. Addify provides control but doesn't necessarily enhance the security beyond standard Shopify authentication before approval is granted.
Which app is suitable for a Shopify Plus store?
miniOrange is generally more suitable for Shopify Plus stores due to its advanced features, integration capabilities, and scalability offered by Single Sign-On. The 'corporate SSO' and 'unified SSO login' functionalities cater to more sophisticated organizational needs often found in Shopify Plus setups.
Does Addify work with existing customer accounts?
No, Addify primarily focuses on controlling *new* customer registrations. It does not directly impact existing accounts.
Can miniOrange sync user data beyond name, tags, and address?
The description explicitly mentions syncing name, tags, and address. While the app *might* support syncing other attributes, it's not explicitly stated. Users should consult miniOrange's documentation or support to confirm.
