Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a comprehensive, ready-to-use solution with robust support and no coding required, Advanced Shipping Rate Manager is the better choice. Its extensive feature set, pre-built carrier integrations, and multi-location support will streamline shipping operations for businesses with complex, yet relatively standard, shipping requirements. Businesses with large operations are well supported.
JsRates, however, is ideal for Shopify Plus merchants or other businesses with highly unique or complex shipping requirements that necessitate full control over the shipping logic. If you need to integrate with a specific API, utilize custom data extensively, or have a developer on staff (or available to hire), JsRates' JavaScript-based approach provides the ultimate flexibility, at the cost of increased complexity.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager is significantly easier to set up for most users due to its user-friendly interface and pre-built integrations. JsRates requires JavaScript knowledge, making setup more complex for non-developers.
Can I use these apps to calculate LTL freight rates?
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager explicitly mentions LTL courier support. JsRates could theoretically calculate LTL rates if you can integrate with an LTL carrier's API using JavaScript.
Which app is better for dropshipping?
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager, with its multi-origin shipping and pre-built carrier integrations, is likely the better option for dropshipping as it can handle shipping from different locations.
Does either app offer free trials?
This information isn't provided, but it's highly likely both apps offer free trials or free plans with limited functionality to allow merchants to test their suitability.
Which app is more scalable?
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager explicitly states no limit to rate requests, products, locations, and shipping rules, pointing to strong scalability. While JsRates doesn't have explicit limitations mentioned, its reliance on custom code means scalability will partially depend on the efficiency of the code implemented.
