Advanced Shipping Rate Manager vs Packrooster Shippingfor Shopify (2026)
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager and Packrooster Shipping are both Shopify apps designed to give merchants greater control over their shipping processes. Advanced Shipping Rate Manager focuses on advanced customization of shipping rules and rates using its own engine alongside real-time carrier rates, positioning itself as a powerful tool for complex shipping scenarios with features such as multi-origin shipping and automatic address classification. Its US-based support adds a premium feel. Packrooster Shipping, on the other hand, emphasizes direct carrier integrations and streamlined fulfillment, particularly appealing to merchants wanting seamless connectivity with specific carriers and offering pickup points at checkout. Advanced Shipping Rate Manager seems targeted towards merchants needing maximum control over shipping rates and rules, handling multiple locations, and requiring robust customization options, even going as far as controlling product dimensions for shipping calculations. Packrooster Shipping caters to merchants prioritizing direct integration with a wide range of carriers (particularly European carriers) and efficient order fulfillment, label printing, and the ability to offer pickup points to their customers. The difference boils down to depth of rate customization versus ease of carrier integration and fulfillment streamlining.

Our Verdict
For merchants requiring extensive customization of shipping rules and rates, handling multi-origin shipping, and needing control over various product dimensions for accurate shipping calculations, Advanced Shipping Rate Manager is the superior choice, especially with its promise of expert US-based support. The larger number of reviews suggests a more mature and battle-tested app.
However, if a merchant's primary goal is to seamlessly integrate with a wide range of popular carriers (especially European carriers), offer pickup points to their customers, and streamline order fulfillment with label printing and barcode scanning, Packrooster Shipping is the better option. It simplifies the connection to shipping carriers and provides efficient fulfillment tools, even if it comes at the cost of some advanced customization.
Common Questions
Which app is better for international shipping?
Both support international shipping. However, Packrooster Shipping highlights specific support for customs documents and lists numerous European carriers, suggesting a stronger focus on European international shipping compared to Advanced Shipping Rate Manager's more general claim of connecting with parcel and LTL couriers.
Which app offers more granular control over shipping costs?
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager provides more granular control over shipping costs due to its ability to create advanced rules by product, weight, location (origin zip / postal code), and more. Packrooster Shipping focuses on connecting directly to carriers and displaying rates based on products and location, relying more on the carrier's rate calculations.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
It's difficult to say definitively without user testing. However, Packrooster Shipping's focus on carrier integration and streamlined fulfillment might make it easier for merchants who prioritize those functions. Advanced Shipping Rate Manager's extensive customization options could introduce more complexity during setup.
Which app is better for multi-location businesses?
Advanced Shipping Rate Manager explicitly supports multiple locations, including location-specific shipping/markup rules. Packrooster Shipping indicates support for Shopify Locations but doesn't emphasize location-specific shipping rules to the same extent.
Which app is a better long-term investment?
Both apps seem to be actively developed with Packrooster Shipping claiming new features and carriers added regularly. Advanced Shipping Rate Manager's US-based support could provide more reliable assistance over time. Long-term value depends on the specific needs of the business and which app consistently updates to meet those needs.
