AE: Order Editing & Upsell vs ExchangeIt Returns & Exchangefor Shopify (2026)

AE: Order Editing & Upsell focuses on proactively preventing order issues by allowing customers to self-edit orders *before* they ship, reducing cancellations and returns. It also aims to increase AOV through post-purchase upsells during the editing process. This app is geared towards merchants who want to empower customers with control over their orders and improve the pre-fulfillment experience. ExchangeIt Returns & Exchange, on the other hand, centers on streamlining the *post-purchase* returns and exchange process. It provides an admin portal for managing requests, automating inventory restocks, and issuing refunds or store credit. ExchangeIt caters to merchants looking to optimize their returns workflow and improve customer retention after a purchase has already been made. The inclusion of a self-service portal for returns in ExchangeIt indicates a focus on reducing support burden. While both address aspects of order management, their core functionalities and target phases of the customer journey differ significantly.
