AE: Order Editing & Upsell vs OTO ‑ Shipping Gatewayfor Shopify (2026)
AE: Order Editing & Upsell and OTO - Shipping Gateway both address the 'Orders' category on Shopify, but cater to vastly different merchant needs. Our Verdict
The choice between AE: Order Editing & Upsell and OTO - Shipping Gateway depends entirely on the merchant's primary need. If a merchant is looking to enhance their post-purchase customer experience by reducing friction in order edits and offering upsells globally, then AE is the clear choice. Its integration with Shopify Flow offers an added layer of automation.
However, if a merchant's main concern is managing shipping logistics, particularly within the MENA region and Turkey, and securing competitive rates from local carriers, OTO - Shipping Gateway is the superior option. While both apps have high ratings, the low review count for OTO suggests it might be newer or targeted towards a more niche audience. Merchants outside the specified geographic region would find limited value in OTO.
Common Questions
Can I use both apps together?
Potentially, but there's no inherent integration between the two. They address separate concerns: order editing and shipping management. Some overlap might exist if OTO can pass tracking updates to AE for display, but this functionality isn't explicitly mentioned.
Is AE: Order Editing & Upsell suitable for merchants outside the US?
Yes, AE: Order Editing & Upsell is globally applicable. Its Google-powered address validation and customizable email notifications can be adapted to various regions and languages. This makes it a solid order editor choice.
Does OTO - Shipping Gateway support integration with other Shopify apps?
The description only focuses on carrier integration. Specific integration details with other apps are not provided. Further research is needed to confirm integrations with apps beyond those listed within the carrier integration.
Which app requires more technical expertise to set up?
OTO may require more technical expertise initially, as it involves configuring shipping carrier integrations, warehouse locations, and payment methods. AE appears to be more straightforward, focusing on enabling customer-facing order editing options within Shopify. However, utilizing the shopify flow integration would require some Shopify flow competence.
If I want to offer international shipping but I'm not in MENA/Turkey, should I use OTO?
No. OTO - Shipping Gateway is specifically tailored for merchants operating in or shipping to the MENA region and Turkey. Its value proposition is the competitive rates and integrations with local carriers in those regions. Merchants outside of that area should use a different shipping solution.
