Afterparty Checkout Upsells vs Recurpay: Subscriptions appfor Shopify (2026)
Afterparty Checkout Upsells and Recurpay: Subscriptions app, while sharing the 'Customer loyalty' category on Shopify, cater to drastically different needs. Afterparty focuses on boosting immediate sales by implementing checkout and thank you page upsells. It targets merchants aiming to increase their average order value through strategic placement of cart links and upsell offers before and after a purchase. Recurpay, on the other hand, positions itself as a comprehensive subscription management solution. It's aimed at merchants who want to establish a recurring revenue stream through subscription-based products or services. The key differentiator lies in their core functionality. Afterparty is about maximizing the value of each individual transaction, while Recurpay is about creating sustained, predictable revenue through subscriptions. Recurpay places emphasis on customer self-service, offering features like subscription management via a customer portal, while Afterparty focuses on optimizing the post-purchase experience for one-time buyers. Consequently, merchants should consider whether they are looking for a short-term sales lift or a long-term revenue generation solution.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a quick and easy way to increase the average order value of each sale, Afterparty Checkout Upsells is the more suitable option. Its focus on pre and post-purchase upsells provides a direct path to boosting immediate revenue. However, given the extremely limited number of reviews, thorough testing and monitoring would be essential. Recurpay is the clear choice for businesses prioritizing the creation of a subscription-based revenue model. The app's robust subscription management features, coupled with 24/7 live support and substantial positive reviews, make it a reliable platform for building and managing a recurring revenue stream.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Based on the descriptions, Afterparty Checkout Upsells seems to offer a simpler setup, focused primarily on adding blocks to existing checkout and thank you pages. Recurpay, while claiming a quick setup, involves more complex configurations for subscription plans, payment schedules, and customer portal customization.
Which app offers better customer support?
Recurpay explicitly advertises 24/7 live human support, giving it a clear advantage in customer support compared to Afterparty Checkout Upsells, which doesn't mention any specific support channels.
Can both apps be used together?
Potentially, but they target different points in the customer journey. Afterparty focuses on the immediate purchase, while Recurpay focuses on the ongoing subscription. A merchant could use Afterparty to upsell a customer *into* a subscription managed by Recurpay.
Which app offers more customization?
Recurpay appears to offer more customization, especially in terms of subscription plans, customer portal design, and access to APIs for developers. Afterparty's customization seems limited to the design and placement of upsell blocks.
Which app is better for long-term customer loyalty?
Recurpay, by its very nature of managing subscriptions, fosters longer-term customer loyalty. While Afterparty can improve the immediate purchase experience, it doesn't inherently build the same level of long-term engagement as a subscription service managed by Recurpay.
