Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell vs Shipping Protection —Shipcheckfor Shopify (2026)
Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell and Shipping Protection — Shipcheck are both Shopify apps categorized under "Upsell and cross-sell," but they cater to very different needs. Aftersell focuses on increasing average order value (AOV) through post-purchase upsells. Its strength lies in offering customers additional products or upgrades after the initial purchase, aiming to capitalize on the momentum of a completed sale. Shipcheck, on the other hand, addresses concerns about shipping risks (lost, damaged, or stolen packages) by allowing merchants to offer their own shipping protection program. It positions itself as a way to build customer trust, offset shipping loss costs, and even generate additional revenue when claims are low. Shipcheck effectively enables merchants to operate their own insurance, instead of losing revenue to a 3rd party company.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on maximizing AOV and increasing immediate sales, Aftersell Post Purchase Upsell is likely the better choice. Its established user base (669 reviews) suggests a mature and potentially well-optimized system for post-purchase offers. However, for merchants experiencing significant losses due to shipping issues or prioritizing building strong customer trust through order protection, Shipping Protection — Shipcheck is the more suitable option. While it has fewer reviews, its focus on allowing merchants to directly control the shipping protection process can be a significant advantage, especially in industries prone to shipping-related problems.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Without access to the app interfaces, it's difficult to definitively say. However, Aftersell's larger user base suggests potentially more documentation or readily available support. Shipcheck’s simpler, more direct function (shipping protection) could translate to a simpler setup, but would require the merchant to understand potential shipping loss risks and pricing strategy.
Which app offers a better return on investment (ROI)?
ROI depends heavily on individual store characteristics. Aftersell's ROI is tied to the effectiveness of its upsell offers. Shipcheck's ROI is determined by the frequency of shipping claims versus the revenue generated from shipping protection fees. Merchants need to carefully analyze their data to determine which approach offers a better return.
Which app is more suitable for a high-volume store?
Both apps could be suitable for high-volume stores, but the choice depends on the specific issues the store faces. A high-volume store with low shipping loss rates might benefit more from Aftersell. A high-volume store with frequent shipping issues would likely find Shipcheck more valuable.
Can both apps be used together?
Potentially, yes. They address different points in the customer journey. Shipcheck can protect the order during shipment, while Aftersell can offer upsells after the initial purchase. However, merchants should carefully consider the potential impact on customer experience and avoid overwhelming customers with too many offers or options.
Which app gives merchants more control?
Shipping Protection — Shipcheck explicitly emphasizes merchant control. It allows merchants to set their own shipping protection fees, manage claims, and retain all revenue. Aftersell's level of control likely lies in customization of the upsell offers themselves, but lacks explicit details on revenue and customization of the upsell placement.
