AfterShip Order Tracking vs ShipStationfor Shopify (2026)
AfterShip Order Tracking and ShipStation, while both categorized as shipping solutions on Shopify, cater to different needs and priorities of merchants in 2026. AfterShip focuses primarily on post-purchase experience, offering robust order tracking and delivery management features. It aims to reduce customer anxiety, improve on-time delivery, and leverage the tracking page for upselling. ShipStation, on the other hand, positions itself as a comprehensive fulfillment platform, managing the entire shipping operation from order import to returns management. AfterShip is likely favored by merchants seeking to enhance customer satisfaction through proactive communication and accurate delivery estimates. Its AI-powered EDD widget and branded tracking pages are designed to retain customers and drive further sales. ShipStation appeals more to high-volume shippers who need a centralized system to automate their shipping processes, access discounted carrier rates, manage inventory, and fulfill orders across multiple channels. The magnitude of features and automation ShipStation offers might be more complex to learn, while AfterShip prioritizes ease of tracking. The two apps address fulfillment, but at different ends of the pipeline, with AfterShip focusing on the customer experience after the purchase and ShipStation streamlining pre-shipment fulfillment.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants prioritizing excellent customer experience post-purchase, reducing customer support inquiries, and leveraging the tracking page to boost sales, AfterShip Order Tracking is the better choice. Its high rating, large number of reviews, and specific features like AI EDD and branded tracking pages demonstrate its effectiveness in this area.
However, if the primary concern is optimizing the entire fulfillment workflow, accessing discounted shipping rates from major carriers, managing inventory effectively, and automating bulk shipping processes, ShipStation is the more suitable option. Its lower rating might reflect a steeper learning curve or complexity in setup, but the broad functionality makes it a powerful tool for high-volume businesses.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the feature sets, AfterShip Order Tracking likely offers a simpler setup process, focusing primarily on order tracking customization. ShipStation, with its wider array of features, might require more configuration.
Which app is more cost-effective?
The cost-effectiveness depends on the shipping volume and feature usage. AfterShip might be cheaper for merchants with lower shipping volumes focused on branding and customer communication. ShipStation's discounted carrier rates could save money for high-volume shippers, but the overall subscription cost might be higher.
Can both apps be used together?
Potentially, yes. A merchant could use ShipStation for fulfillment and then integrate it with AfterShip to handle the post-purchase tracking experience. This allows for a best-of-both-worlds approach, although integration compatibility would need to be verified.
Which app has better customer support?
AfterShip explicitly mentions 24/7 chat and email support, suggesting a strong focus on customer assistance. While ShipStation doesn't explicitly detail support availability, the company's widespread use suggests robust support resources are available.
Which app is better for businesses with multiple warehouses?
ShipStation is better suited for businesses with multiple warehouses, as it offers features to manage inventory across different locations and route orders appropriately.
