Age Gate:Age Verification 18 + vs COD King‑COD Fees & OTP Verifyfor Shopify (2026)
Age Gate: Age Verification 18 + focuses on legally restricting access to a Shopify store based on age. It uses customizable popups and rules to ensure compliance for merchants selling age-restricted products like alcohol, CBD, or adult content. Its primary strength lies in its ease of use, with claims of a setup time of under 2 minutes, and its explicit goal of helping merchants avoid legal issues related to underage access. COD King‑COD Fees & OTP Verify, on the other hand, tackles the issue of fraudulent orders and failed deliveries by verifying Cash on Delivery (COD) orders through OTP verification and encouraging upfront payments. The core difference is in their target problems: Age Gate addresses legal compliance, while COD King addresses revenue loss due to RTO/RTS (Return to Origin/Return to Sender). COD King is a higher-rated app (5/5 compared to 4.6/5), and has a significantly larger number of reviews (560 versus 74), suggesting broader adoption and potentially higher reliability in addressing its specific challenge. While both fall under the 'Notifications' category on Shopify (due to OTP verification SMS for COD King, and age verification prompts for Age Gate), their functionalities are vastly different.

Our Verdict
Age Gate is the obvious choice for merchants selling age-restricted goods. The app directly addresses the critical need for age verification and compliance. Its ease of use further strengthens its position for this niche. Without it, these businesses risk severe legal consequences.
COD King is valuable for merchants experiencing significant financial losses due to high RTO/RTS rates associated with COD orders. If a substantial portion of a store's sales are COD, and RTO is a persistent problem, then COD King can deliver a tangible ROI through reduced losses and potentially increased conversions to prepaid orders. Given its higher rating and larger user base, it appears to be a reliable solution for this specific problem. For stores *not* significantly impacted by COD-related issues, COD King may be unnecessary.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Age Gate claims a setup time of under 2 minutes, suggesting it is very user-friendly. COD King does not explicitly state setup time, but the presence of OTP verification suggests some technical configuration may be required.
Which app is more relevant for legal compliance?
Age Gate is designed specifically for legal compliance regarding age restrictions. COD King does not address legal compliance directly.
If I sell CBD products, which app should I choose?
Age Gate is explicitly mentioned as being perfect for CBD sellers, due to the age restrictions around those products. COD King addresses a different problem - RTO/RTS and payment verification.
Is COD King only useful in India and Egypt?
While COD King highlights support for converting COD to prepaid in India & Egypt, the core functionality of OTP verification and upfront payments can likely be used in other regions as well, to reduce RTO.
