AgeSafe: Smart Age Check vs ProveSource: Sales Pop Upsfor Shopify (2026)
AgeSafe: Smart Age Check and ProveSource: Sales Pop Ups, while both categorized under Shopify's 'Pop-ups', serve fundamentally different purposes. AgeSafe positions itself as a compliance tool for merchants selling age-restricted products. Its strength lies in its age verification features, promising customizable popups, targeted product restrictions, and location-based rules to ensure legal compliance and protect against underage purchases. It targets merchants in industries like alcohol, tobacco, or adult products where age verification is legally mandated. ProveSource, on the other hand, focuses on leveraging social proof to increase conversions through sales notifications. The critical distinction lies in their core functionalities and value propositions. AgeSafe prioritizes legal compliance and risk mitigation related to age-restricted sales. It’s about safeguarding the business and adhering to regulations. ProveSource is focused on marketing and driving sales. It’s about leveraging consumer behavior and building trust to increase revenue. The difference is very clear: one ensures you stay out of legal trouble, the other tries to get more sales using social proof.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling age-restricted products, AgeSafe: Smart Age Check, despite its current lack of reviews, is the essential choice if it delivers on its promise of robust age verification and legal compliance. The absence of reviews presents a risk, demanding thorough testing before full implementation. If it fails to perform well or garner users, merchants should look for alternative age verification software with a better rating.
ProveSource: Sales Pop Ups is ideal for merchants looking to boost sales through social proof and sales notifications. Its high rating and numerous reviews suggest a reliable and effective tool for increasing conversion rates. It is not suitable for age verification purposes and should not be considered as an alternative to AgeSafe for merchants requiring age verification.
Common Questions
Can ProveSource be used for age verification instead of AgeSafe?
No. ProveSource is designed for sales notifications and social proof, not age verification. Using it for age verification would be ineffective and potentially illegal.
Is AgeSafe suitable for all Shopify stores?
No. AgeSafe is only relevant for stores selling age-restricted products that require legal age verification.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the information available, ProveSource is likely easier to set up and use, given its established user base and high rating. AgeSafe's claim of simple setup is untested by real users. As of 2026, its lack of reviews is a red flag.
Which app offers a better return on investment (ROI)?
It depends on the merchant's needs. AgeSafe's ROI is measured in risk mitigation and legal compliance, while ProveSource's ROI is measured in increased sales. If compliance is paramount, AgeSafe offers a superior ROI; if increased sales are the priority, ProveSource is the better choice, assuming it performs as well as its rating suggests.
Are there any free alternatives to either app?
There may be free alternatives for simple pop-up functionality in both age verification and sales notification categories. However, AgeSafe's secure blocking layer and country-specific rules, if effective, likely necessitate a paid solution. Similarly, effective sales pop-up tools often require paid subscriptions for advanced features and higher usage limits.
