AgeX ‑ age verification popup vs Terms and Conditions checkboxfor Shopify (2026)
AgeX ‑ age verification popup and Terms and Conditions checkbox are both Shopify apps targeting the 'Legal' category, but they address distinct compliance needs. AgeX focuses specifically on age verification through customizable popups, aiming to restrict underage access to sensitive products. It boasts a perfect 5-star rating based on 44 reviews. Conversely, Terms and Conditions checkbox centers on obtaining consent for various policies, including refund policies, privacy policies, and even age verification, at the cart level. It has a slightly lower rating of 4.9 stars with 15 reviews. The key difference lies in their core functionality. AgeX is a dedicated age gate solution, offering robust features like country-based rules and multi-language support tailored for age verification. Terms and Conditions checkbox provides a more generalized solution for policy acceptance, incorporating age verification as one of many possible consent requests. It prioritizes record-keeping of consent and seamless integration with the cart flow to minimize abandonment. Therefore, merchants selling age-restricted goods will likely prefer AgeX while those seeking comprehensive policy consent at the cart level may prefer Terms and Conditions checkbox. While both apps aim to enhance compliance, their approaches and target merchants differ significantly. AgeX is designed for businesses with strict age restrictions and a global audience, needing customizable age gates and geo-based controls. Terms and Conditions checkbox caters to a broader range of merchants aiming to solidify their legal standing by documenting customer agreement to various policies, ultimately reducing chargebacks and disputes.

The perfect 5-star rating and higher review count suggest a reliable and effective solution for this specific purpose.
However, if you need a more general solution for obtaining consent to various policies, including refund policies, shipping terms, and privacy policies, Terms and Conditions checkbox is the better option. Its ability to log consent dates and integrate seamlessly with the cart flow makes it valuable for reducing chargebacks and disputes.
