AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block vs Chargeback Specialistfor Shopify (2026)
AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block and Chargeback Specialist both address fraud prevention but in fundamentally different ways. AirLock focuses on preemptively blocking unwanted traffic based on IP address and geographic location. Its strength lies in controlling who can access your store and is specifically targeting Shopify Plus merchants with checkout UI blocking capabilities. Chargeback Specialist, on the other hand, focuses on reactive fraud mitigation by automating chargeback responses and preventing fraudulent disputes. It positions itself as a solution for fast-growing eCommerce brands and high-volume stores seeking to recover lost revenue and reduce manual work. Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with preventing access from specific countries or known malicious IP addresses, especially those on Shopify Plus seeking to protect their checkout process, AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block is the clear choice. Its focus on proactive blocking offers direct control over who can interact with the store. However, for high-volume stores struggling with chargebacks and seeking to automate the dispute resolution process while recovering lost revenue, Chargeback Specialist is the superior solution. Its AI-driven responses and human review offer a compelling value proposition for managing existing fraud attempts.
Common Questions
Does AirLock help with chargebacks?
AirLock focuses on preventing access to your store, which may indirectly reduce chargebacks by blocking potentially fraudulent users. However, it doesn't offer specific chargeback management or dispute resolution features.
Does Chargeback Specialist block specific IPs or countries?
No, Chargeback Specialist focuses on managing chargebacks and preventing fraudulent disputes that have already occurred. It does not offer IP or country blocking capabilities.
Which app is easier to set up?
Chargeback Specialist emphasizes "One click Activation. No technical setup required," suggesting a simpler setup process compared to AirLock. While AirLock doesn't explicitly mention setup complexity, it implies more direct control over blocking rules, potentially requiring more configuration.
Which app is more suitable for a low-volume store?
AirLock might be more suitable for a low-volume store if you are experiencing targeted attacks from specific IPs or countries. Chargeback Specialist is geared towards high-volume stores dealing with a significant number of chargebacks, making it potentially overkill for a smaller store with few disputes.
Can both apps be used together?
Yes, AirLock and Chargeback Specialist can be used in conjunction. AirLock can help prevent some fraudulent activity from occurring in the first place, while Chargeback Specialist can handle any chargebacks that still manage to occur. This creates a more comprehensive fraud prevention strategy.
