AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block vs reCAPTCHA spambusterfor Shopify (2026)
AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block and reCAPTCHA Spambuster both aim to reduce fraud and unwanted activity on Shopify stores, but they employ very different approaches. AirLock focuses on preventing access based on IP addresses and geographic location, offering control over who can even view the store's content. This is particularly useful for merchants targeting specific regions or experiencing attacks from known sources. reCAPTCHA Spambuster, on the other hand, focuses on filtering out bot-generated spam on forms like contact forms, login pages, and newsletter sign-ups. It uses Google's reCAPTCHA technology to differentiate between human users and bots, ensuring that genuine customers are not inconvenienced. While both apps are listed in the 'Fraud' category, AirLock offers preventative measures, blocking access *before* fraudulent activity can occur. reCAPTCHA Spambuster is reactive, filtering out spam *after* a bot attempts to interact with the store. Furthermore, AirLock has a significantly higher rating (5/5) compared to reCAPTCHA Spambuster (2/5), although the review counts are low for both. A key differentiator is AirLock's Shopify Plus exclusive Checkout UI Blocking feature, protecting the checkout process, while reCAPTCHA Spambuster doesn't address the checkout directly.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with preventing access from specific countries or IP addresses, and especially Shopify Plus users seeking to protect their checkout, AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block is the more suitable choice. Its focus on proactive blocking provides greater control over who can interact with the store.
Conversely, reCAPTCHA Spambuster is better suited for merchants primarily facing issues with spam submissions through forms. Its easy setup and invisible reCAPTCHA v3 integration make it a simple and effective solution for filtering out bots without disrupting legitimate customers. However, the lower rating suggests potential issues with the app's performance or customer satisfaction, so merchants should carefully consider the reviews before committing.
