AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block vs RTOx Phone Verify & Limit CODfor Shopify (2026)
AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block and RTOx Phone Verify & Limit COD both target fraud prevention on Shopify stores, but they address completely different aspects. AirLock focuses on blocking potentially malicious traffic based on IP address and geographic location, providing a broad shield against various IP-based threats. RTOx Phone Verify & Limit COD, on the other hand, concentrates on verifying customer phone numbers using OTP (One-Time Password) authentication to reduce return-to-origin (RTO) issues and associated costs, specifically targeting fraudulent COD orders. AirLock offers more generic fraud protection, while RTOx is highly specialized for COD-related problems. The key differentiator lies in their approach. AirLock provides a reactive, pre-emptive defense by blocking potentially harmful actors from accessing the store, including checkout for Shopify Plus users. RTOx offers a proactive method, ensuring the legitimacy of customer contact information and selectively allowing COD based on verification. Because of the reactive approach, Airlock may prevent legitimate customers from accessing a Shopify store if the block is too aggressive. Also, Airlock provides AI enhanced blocking, which RTOx doesn't provide. The best app depends entirely on the merchant's specific fraud concerns and target audience.

Our Verdict
For merchants experiencing significant issues with international spam or bot traffic and willing to potentially block some legitimate users from specific regions, AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block would be the more suitable choice. The inclusion of Checkout UI Blocking for Shopify Plus users also makes it the superior option for large merchants needing enhanced checkout security. However, merchants predominantly struggling with return-to-origin (RTO) problems related to cash-on-delivery orders should opt for RTOx Phone Verify & Limit COD. The focus on OTP verification directly addresses the core issue of confirming customer contact details, preventing fraudulent COD transactions and potentially saving substantial shipping costs. AirLock offers broader, potentially more disruptive protection; RTOx provides targeted relief for COD-specific problems.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on available information, AirLock might be slightly easier to initially set up due to the relatively straightforward concept of IP and country blocking. However, both apps likely require some configuration and monitoring to ensure optimal performance and avoid unintended consequences.
Does AirLock or RTOx offer a free plan or trial?
This information is not provided in the data. You will need to check the app listings on the Shopify App Store for details on pricing and trial availability.
Which app is better for protecting against bot traffic?
AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block is likely better suited for blocking bot traffic because it can filter requests based on IP address, location, and potentially even using AI to identify bot-like behavior (AI Enhanced Blocking). RTOx focuses on verifying human customers, so it is not suitable for bot detection.
If I only offer credit card payments, which app is more useful?
AirLock is likely more useful. RTOx focuses on COD-specific fraud. If you only accept credit card payments, blocking potentially malicious IPs with AirLock is more relevant.
What are the potential drawbacks of using AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block?
Overly aggressive blocking can prevent legitimate customers from accessing your store, potentially impacting sales. Careful monitoring and adjustments are needed to ensure the app effectively protects against threats without harming the customer experience.
