AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block vs Trouble Tracker | Chargebackfor Shopify (2026)
AirLock ‑ GeoShield & IP Block and Trouble Tracker | Chargeback, while both categorized under "Fraud" in the Shopify app store, address vastly different aspects of potential fraud and order management. AirLock focuses on preventative measures by blocking unwanted visitors based on IP address or country, aiming to stop fraudulent activity before it even reaches the store. It positions itself as a proactive security tool, giving merchants control over who accesses their site. Trouble Tracker | Chargeback, on the other hand, focuses on reactive measures by helping merchants manage and resolve chargebacks and identify problematic orders that could lead to future disputes. The key differentiator lies in their approach: AirLock is a gatekeeper, preventing access, while Trouble Tracker is a detective, analyzing existing orders for potential issues. AirLock is designed for merchants concerned about international fraud, bot traffic, or specific known malicious IP addresses. Trouble Tracker is geared towards merchants experiencing high chargeback rates and seeking tools to manage and mitigate their impact, as well as identify risky customers. Given the limited number of reviews for both apps, merchants should take their ratings with a grain of salt and prioritize trials to test the apps within their specific Shopify environments.

Our Verdict
For Shopify Plus merchants concerned about preventing fraud at the checkout level, AirLock with its Checkout UI Blocking features presents a compelling option. Businesses facing a high volume of chargebacks and needing assistance in disputing them would benefit from Trouble Tracker's expert dispute assistance. However, given its lower rating and focus on reactive measures, it would be advisable to test it thoroughly before committing. Smaller merchants without significant international traffic might find AirLock's IP blocking features less immediately relevant, while those grappling with chargeback issues should carefully evaluate Trouble Tracker despite the mixed reviews.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the descriptions, AirLock appears to be potentially simpler to set up, focusing on straightforward IP and country blocking. Trouble Tracker, with its chargeback resolution and order analysis features, might require more initial configuration and understanding of order risk factors.
Does Trouble Tracker block customers proactively?
Trouble Tracker primarily identifies potentially problematic orders after they've been placed, offering real-time alerts but not directly blocking customers upfront like AirLock.
Which app provides a free trial?
The provided data does not indicate whether either app offers a free trial. Merchants should check the Shopify App Store listing for current trial offers.
Which app is better for a small business just starting out?
If chargebacks are not yet a major problem, AirLock might be a better fit for preventing certain types of fraudulent access. If chargebacks *are* an issue, then Trouble Tracker could be helpful (assuming you're comfortable with the lower rating and test it thoroughly).
Are these apps GDPR compliant?
The provided data doesn't address GDPR compliance. Merchants must independently verify GDPR compliance for both apps with the developers, ensuring they adhere to data privacy regulations when blocking or tracking users.
