AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor vs SEO Speed Image Optimizerfor Shopify (2026)
In 2026, the choice between AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor and SEO Speed Image Optimizer hinges on the merchant's priorities: manual control vs. automated optimization. AltMate targets merchants who demand precise control over their image alt text for SEO, offering a table-based bulk editor for manual adjustments. It explicitly emphasizes the need for human accuracy over AI-generated alt text, ideal for businesses prioritizing highly specific and carefully crafted SEO strategies. Its key strength lies in its granular control over image alt text, allowing for fine-tuning and tailored optimization. The lack of ratings, however, suggests it is a brand new app, with no track record. In comparison, SEO Speed Image Optimizer aims for ease of use and automated optimization, targeting merchants who want to improve site speed and SEO without hands-on management. It automatically resizes images and optimizes alt text, saving time and effort. SEO Speed Image Optimizer offers a broader approach, encompassing both image resizing and alt text optimization, aiming to improve overall site performance and SEO in one go. Its high rating and numerous reviews suggest that merchants have found it valuable and user-friendly. This app is best for those who want a quick, simple solution for improving site speed and basic image SEO. However, this comes with the cost of reduced control over image SEO copy. AltMate's advantage is fine-grained control, but its zero reviews suggest no merchants have yet validated the app's effectiveness or usability.

Our Verdict
For merchants who value complete control over their image alt text and are willing to invest the time in manual editing for specific SEO strategies, AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor could be a good fit *if* it proves to be reliable once it gains reviews. However, given the lack of reviews, proceed with extreme caution. For merchants prioritizing ease of use, speed, and a more general approach to image optimization and SEO, SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the better choice due to its strong reputation and automated features. The SEO Speed Image Optimizer provides more value in terms of features, reputation and results. It would be hard to recommend a solution with zero reviews over an option with hundreds of 5-star reviews.
Common Questions
Which app is better for merchants who want AI-generated alt text?
Neither app claims to directly offer AI-generated alt text. However, SEO Speed Image Optimizer provides broad automation for alt text optimization, but not necessarily generated via AI. AltMate is designed for manual work.
Which app is easier to use for beginners?
Based on the descriptions, SEO Speed Image Optimizer is likely easier for beginners. Its automated approach requires less manual intervention, and the single-click bulk optimization feature makes it simple to use. AltMate, with its manual table editor, requires more SEO knowledge and effort.
Which app is better for improving website speed?
SEO Speed Image Optimizer is the clear choice for improving website speed. It includes image resizing and compression, which directly addresses factors that slow down website loading times. AltMate focuses solely on alt text and does not offer image resizing capabilities.
Which app gives the merchant more control over their SEO?
AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor gives the merchant more direct control over their image SEO. It allows precise manual editing of each alt text, enabling highly targeted and specific optimization strategies. SEO Speed Image Optimizer automates the process, reducing the level of direct control.
What should merchants consider regarding the lack of reviews for AltMate?
