AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor vs StoreSEO: AI SEO Agentfor Shopify (2026)
In 2026, AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor and StoreSEO: AI SEO Agent cater to Shopify merchants seeking to improve their store's SEO, but they employ drastically different approaches. AltMate focuses solely on providing a manual, table-based interface for bulk editing image alt text, emphasizing complete merchant control over SEO accuracy and targeting merchants who distrust AI-generated content. In contrast, StoreSEO positions itself as a comprehensive AI-powered SEO suite, offering automated solutions for various SEO aspects, including alt text generation, content optimization, technical SEO, and analytics integration. StoreSEO aims for a broad audience needing a complete SEO solution with AI assistance, while AltMate targets merchants who prioritize manual control and precision over speed and automation, specifically focusing on image alt text optimization. The stark difference in user ratings and review count suggests a significant preference for StoreSEO's comprehensive AI-driven approach, though AltMate potentially serves a niche audience highly focused on manual control of alt text. StoreSEO also offers broader functionality, including blog generation, schema markup and Google Analytics Integration.

Our Verdict
For Shopify merchants seeking a comprehensive, automated SEO solution and comfortable relying on AI, StoreSEO is the clear choice. Its high rating and numerous reviews suggest a positive user experience and effective results. The suite of features, including AI-powered alt text generation, blog creation and technical SEO, cater to a broader range of needs.
However, for merchants who specifically require precise control over image alt text and distrust AI-generated content, AltMate offers a targeted solution, provided the lack of reviews doesn't indicate significant issues. If AltMate improves its usability and acquires user feedback, it will become the better choice for merchants who strongly value manual processes and accuracy above automation. The right app is going to depend greatly on the skill of the store-owner and their willingness to rely on AI.
