AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor vs Webrex: SEO Schema & JSON‑LDfor Shopify (2026)
AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor and Webrex: SEO Schema & JSON‑LD both aim to improve a Shopify store's SEO, but they tackle different aspects. AltMate focuses specifically on optimizing image alt text through a manual, bulk-editing interface. It caters to merchants who prioritize precise control over alt text and are wary of AI-generated alternatives. Webrex, on the other hand, provides a broader SEO solution by implementing schema markup, making it easier for search engines and AI to understand product and business information. Webrex targets merchants seeking to leverage AI-driven search and improve click-through rates with rich snippets, utilizing features like FAQ schema, review integration, and support for various schema types (Product, Review, FAQ, etc.). Its AI-ready approach and integrations make it a more comprehensive SEO tool compared to AltMate's niche focus on alt text. While both apps fall under the 'SEO' category on Shopify, their functionalities and target audiences differ significantly.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with image alt text and who prefer a hands-on approach, AltMate: Bulk Alt Text Editor could be a viable solution, *if* the lack of reviews and zero rating doesn't deter them. However, given the lack of social proof in 2026, it represents a risk. Webrex: SEO Schema & JSON‑LD is the stronger recommendation for most Shopify merchants seeking to improve their overall SEO, especially in an AI-driven search landscape. Its AI-assisted schema generation, wide range of schema support, and positive user reviews make it a more reliable and comprehensive choice. If your primary goal is creating descriptive image alt text though, you may need to consider AltMate in tandem, but keep in mind that the lack of reviews is alarming.
