Amphora | Pick, Pack and Ship vs Lightning Inventoryfor Shopify (2026)
Amphora | Pick, Pack and Ship and Lightning Inventory are Shopify apps catering to different logistical needs. Amphora positions itself as a complete outsourced logistics solution, offering 3PL services with a focus on international warehousing and order fulfillment. It targets merchants looking to externalize their entire logistics operation and scale internationally. Lightning Inventory, on the other hand, focuses on internal inventory management, providing tools for fast transfers, adjustments, and barcode scanning. It aims to streamline in-house inventory operations. The primary distinction lies in their scope. Amphora provides an end-to-end logistics outsourcing solution, while Lightning Inventory enhances a merchant's internal inventory handling capabilities. Amphora's value proposition centers on cost optimization and scalability through externalized logistics, while Lightning Inventory promises speed and efficiency in inventory adjustments and transfers using features like barcode scanning and CSV uploads. Given the lack of user reviews, Amphora's claims regarding ease of use and customer experience remain unverified, while Lightning Inventory benefits from a 4/5 rating and 10 reviews, suggesting a level of user satisfaction. While both apps share Shopify categories like 'Selling in person' and 'SKU and barcodes', their feature sets indicate completely different approaches to inventory and order management. Amphora targets a high-growth merchant looking to expand their footprint across multiple countries with a network of warehouses, while Lightning Inventory would suit merchants who would prefer to manage their inventory themselves but want a lightning fast and streamlined experience.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a completely hands-off approach to logistics and order fulfillment, particularly those operating internationally, Amphora could be a potential solution. However, the lack of reviews presents a risk. For merchants who prefer to manage their own inventory and are looking for tools to streamline transfers, adjustments, and barcode scanning, Lightning Inventory appears to be a better fit. Lightning Inventory's existing rating and reviews offer more confidence.
Ultimately, the choice depends on the merchant's preferred level of involvement in logistics. If the merchant seeks complete outsourcing, they could consider Amphora. If the merchant needs efficient internal inventory management, Lightning Inventory is the stronger recommendation based on the available data.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a small business just starting out?
Lightning Inventory is likely better for a small business. It offers tools to manage inventory internally, which is more cost-effective than outsourcing. Amphora's 3PL services are better suited for larger businesses looking to scale.
Can both apps be used simultaneously?
Potentially, but it's likely redundant. If a merchant is using Amphora's 3PL services, they may not need Lightning Inventory's inventory management features. Lightning Inventory could, however, be used for internal inventory that Amphora isn't managing.
Which app is easier to integrate with existing Shopify stores?
Without specific integration details, it's impossible to say definitively. However, Lightning Inventory's focused feature set might suggest a simpler integration process. Amphora might require more complex integration due to its broader scope.
Which app is better for international businesses?
Amphora explicitly states that it has warehouses in multiple countries and caters for B2B and B2C operations, making it suitable for an international business looking for warehousing and 3PL in the EU and US. Lightning Inventory is limited in scope, and can't offer that level of hands-off fulfilment.
How does the pricing structure differ between the two apps?
Amphora, being a 3PL service, likely has a more complex pricing structure based on storage volume, order volume, and shipping costs. Lightning Inventory likely follows a subscription-based model common for Shopify apps. No pricing information is available for either, but that would be typical of such offerings.
