Amplius Customer Fields vs Doppelgangerfor Shopify (2026)
Amplius Customer Fields and Doppelganger cater to fundamentally different aspects of customer data management for Shopify merchants. Amplius Customer Fields focuses on expanding the scope of customer data collected directly from customers through custom fields in registration and account pages. Its core strength lies in enabling personalized customer experiences by capturing specific preferences and information directly within the native Shopify metafields, ensuring data ownership and seamless integration with other apps. This app appears to be aimed at merchants needing to collect specific customer details for personalization and targeted marketing. Doppelganger, conversely, addresses the problem of duplicate customer accounts that can skew crucial business metrics like Customer Lifetime Value (CLV). It provides tools to find, link, and merge these duplicate accounts, leading to a more accurate representation of customer value and behavior. This app is particularly valuable for businesses that suspect they have significant duplicate accounts due to various sales channels or customers using multiple email addresses. While both apps touch on customer data, their focus areas – data collection vs. data cleanup and accuracy – make them distinct and suitable for different pain points.

Our Verdict
Amplius Customer Fields is the clear choice for merchants prioritizing richer customer data collection and personalized experiences. Its focus on metafields ensures data ownership and easy integration with other Shopify apps. Its higher rating and more numerous reviews suggest greater user satisfaction. For stores needing to gather specific customer details for personalization, targeting, or legal compliance (e.g., VAT ID), Amplius is the superior option.
Doppelganger is more niche, serving a specific need: merging duplicate accounts. While the concept is valuable, its significantly lower rating indicates potential issues with usability or effectiveness. Merchants struggling with inaccurate CLV calculations due to duplicate accounts might consider it, but should thoroughly research recent reviews and potentially seek alternatives with better ratings and more robust features for data reconciliation.
