Answerbase AI‑Enabled FAQs vs AutoMeta: AI custom fieldsfor Shopify (2026)
Answerbase AI-Enabled FAQs and AutoMeta: AI custom fields both aim to enhance product content on Shopify, but they cater to different merchant needs and employ distinct approaches. Answerbase focuses on generating and optimizing FAQ content to drive organic traffic and conversions, leveraging AI to identify relevant questions and automatically answer them. Its strength lies in its SEO optimization and conversion tracking capabilities, making it ideal for merchants seeking to improve their search engine visibility and customer engagement through informative FAQs. AutoMeta, on the other hand, provides a more flexible solution for creating and managing custom fields for products, variants, and collections. Powered by ChatGPT, it allows merchants to generate contextual content for these custom fields directly within the Shopify Admin panel. This is particularly useful for merchants who require more granular control over their product data and want to enrich their product pages with specific, AI-generated information. However, its lack of ratings and reviews compared to Answerbase presents a higher risk for adoption in 2026.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on improving SEO and driving organic traffic through informative FAQs, Answerbase AI-Enabled FAQs appears to be the more suitable choice. Its focus on automatically identifying and answering common customer questions, combined with its conversion tracking capabilities, offers a clear path to ROI. However, the small sample size of only 10 reviews makes the perfect 5/5 rating less reliable.
AutoMeta: AI custom fields is better suited for merchants who require greater flexibility in managing their product data and want to leverage AI to generate content for custom fields. While it offers more control over the content creation process, it requires more hands-on management and lacks the SEO-specific features of Answerbase. The absence of reviews also makes it a riskier choice, requiring merchants to proceed with caution and carefully evaluate its functionality before committing to it.
Common Questions
Which app is better for SEO?
Answerbase is explicitly focused on SEO, with features like automated GEO and conversion tracking. AutoMeta offers indirect SEO benefits through richer product descriptions via custom fields, but is not as explicitly designed for search engine optimization.
Which app is easier to use?
Answerbase appears to be more automated, potentially requiring less manual input after the initial setup. AutoMeta, while integrated into the Shopify Admin, requires more active management of custom fields and prompt engineering for content generation.
Which app offers better value for money?
Without pricing information, it's impossible to definitively say. However, consider the value based on your specific needs. If SEO and organic traffic are priorities, Answerbase might provide a better return. If you need greater control over product data, AutoMeta could be more valuable.
Which app is more flexible and customizable?
AutoMeta is the more flexible option, allowing you to create custom fields and tailor the AI-generated content using your own prompts. Answerbase is more focused on FAQs and offers less direct control over the content's specific wording.
Which app should I choose if I'm unsure what questions customers are asking?
Answerbase is designed to identify FAQs based on search engine demand, competitor analysis, and other sources, making it a better choice if you're unsure what questions to address. AutoMeta requires you to define the custom fields and prompts, so you need a better understanding of your product data needs.
