AOV.ai Post Purchase Upsell vs Essential Upsell & Cross Sellfor Shopify (2026)
AOV.ai Post Purchase Upsell and Essential Upsell & Cross Sell both aim to boost Average Order Value (AOV) through upsell and cross-sell techniques, but they differ in their approach and target user. AOV.ai Post Purchase Upsell focuses on seamless post-purchase experiences on the thank you and order status pages, leveraging AI-powered templates and advanced targeting. Essential Upsell & Cross Sell, on the other hand, offers a broader suite of upsell and cross-sell options throughout the customer journey, including product pages, cart drawers, and post-purchase flows. It emphasizes frequently bought together recommendations and product bundles. Essential Upsell & Cross Sell appears to be the more established app based on the large number of reviews, suggesting a wider user base and potentially more comprehensive feature set. AOV.ai Post Purchase Upsell seems to be targeting merchants who want a streamlined, AI-driven approach to post-purchase upsells, potentially requiring less hands-on configuration. The choice between the two depends on the merchant's desired level of control, the extent of their upsell strategy, and the importance of AI-powered automation versus broader feature coverage.

Our Verdict
For merchants seeking a simple, AI-driven solution to increase AOV specifically after the checkout process, AOV.ai Post Purchase Upsell may be the better choice. The focus on post-purchase upsells on thank you and order status pages provides a targeted approach. The AI-powered templates can also facilitate quicker implementation.
However, for merchants looking for a more comprehensive upsell and cross-sell strategy across multiple touchpoints including product pages and the cart, Essential Upsell & Cross Sell is likely the stronger option. The greater number of reviews suggests broader adoption and a potentially more robust feature set. The 'frequently bought together' functionality and product bundle features could be particularly valuable for increasing AOV.
