APO Product Options, Variants vs Product Rentals Profor Shopify (2026)
APO Product Options, Variants and Product Rentals Pro are both Shopify apps within the 'Custom products, Custom products - Other' categories, but they cater to vastly different merchant needs. APO Product Options, Variants focuses on extending Shopify's native product customization capabilities. It allows merchants to offer a wide array of options, dynamically adjust pricing based on selections, and even incorporate upsells and add-ons. It boasts a large user base and is tailored for businesses selling configurable products requiring detailed specifications and variable pricing. It aims to empower merchants to create highly customized products without coding, suitable for businesses that sell products that have a large number of customizable features. Product Rentals Pro, on the other hand, specifically targets businesses that rent out physical products. Its core function is to streamline rental management, featuring booking calendars, automated notifications, and buffer configurations to maximize product availability. The app simplifies scheduling, fulfillment, and returns for rental businesses. Features such as the rent or buy option and insurance upsells, make it a solution specifically tailored for stores renting out items. The small user base, whilst providing a higher rating than APO Product Options, may raise concerns to some merchants.

Our Verdict
For merchants selling configurable products with complex option requirements, APO Product Options, Variants is the clear choice. Its extensive feature set allows for unparalleled product customization. However, if a business is primarily engaged in renting out physical goods, Product Rentals Pro is the more suitable option. Its rental-specific features and booking calendar provide a dedicated solution for managing rental operations effectively.
While Product Rentals Pro has a perfect rating, the small number of reviews might warrant further investigation. APO Product Options, Variants has a lower rating, but the significantly higher number of reviews indicates a more established user base and a larger pool of experience to draw from. The app chosen should reflect the merchants business and product needs above all else.
