Apps Mav: Scratch and WIN! vs Gatsby: Convert Your Followersfor Shopify (2026)
Apps Mav: Scratch and WIN! and Gatsby: Convert Your Followers both aim to boost sales and engagement for Shopify merchants via giveaways and contests, but they adopt very different approaches. Apps Mav focuses on on-site engagement through scratch card games that incentivize email sign-ups, referral traffic, and repeat visits. It aims to gamify the customer experience directly on the store's website. In contrast, Gatsby centers on converting Instagram followers into email and SMS subscribers through automated campaigns and DMs, leveraging social media engagement. Gatsby focuses on generating leads and driving sales by capitalizing on the brand's existing Instagram presence. Apps Mav is ideal for merchants seeking to increase on-site engagement and collect zero-party data, while Gatsby caters to merchants who have already built a significant following on Instagram and seek to convert this social presence into tangible marketing assets like email and SMS lists. The apps also differentiate in their level of automation. Apps Mav offers automatic coupons and referral programs, while Gatsby focuses on automated Instagram giveaway campaigns and flows triggered by user-generated content and follows.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing immediate on-site engagement and gathering customer data directly on their Shopify store, Apps Mav: Scratch and WIN! may be suitable, especially if they value gamification and offering instant rewards. However, the significantly lower rating and small number of reviews should be considered carefully. Gatsby: Convert Your Followers is a stronger choice for merchants with an established Instagram presence looking to convert their followers into valuable email and SMS subscribers, and to automate engagement based on social interactions. The high rating and substantial number of reviews suggest a more reliable and effective solution.
Given the current data, Gatsby: Convert Your Followers is generally the safer and more robust choice, particularly for merchants actively investing in their Instagram strategy. Apps Mav: Scratch and WIN! could be considered by merchants on a tight budget seeking a simple on-site engagement tool, but the lower rating and fewer reviews suggest caution is warranted.
Common Questions
Which app is better for collecting customer emails?
Both Apps Mav and Gatsby collect customer emails. Apps Mav does this through on-site scratch card forms, while Gatsby collects emails directly from Instagram DMs. Gatsby also integrates with Klaviyo and Attentive, providing more robust email marketing capabilities.
Which app is better for beginners?
While neither app explicitly mentions ease of use, Apps Mav's on-site focus might be simpler to set up initially. However, Gatsby's higher rating suggests users find it manageable, and the documentation and support available might be more comprehensive.
Does Apps Mav integrate with email marketing platforms?
Apps Mav mentions automatic coupons but doesn't explicitly state integrations with email marketing platforms like Klaviyo or Mailchimp. It appears to focus on collecting emails directly without immediate integration.
Which app is better for running referral programs?
Apps Mav explicitly features a 'Refer to play again' feature for viral referral traffic. While Gatsby focuses on ambassador management, it does not explicitly mention a traditional referral program.
What are the risks of using Apps Mav given its low rating?
A low rating (2.9/5) with only 8 reviews suggests potential issues with app functionality, customer support, or overall user experience. Merchants should proceed with caution and thoroughly test the app before committing to a paid plan.
