AppsByB: Backup & Restore vs Tru Identity Compliancefor Shopify (2026)
AppsByB: Backup & Restore and Tru Identity Compliance address entirely different needs within Shopify operations. AppsByB focuses on data security and store management, offering tools for creating and scheduling backups of product and content data, as well as syncing data between multiple stores. This is particularly valuable for merchants who frequently update their store, manage multiple store environments, or are planning migrations. Tru Identity Compliance, on the other hand, tackles the complex issue of product compliance, ensuring merchants adhere to regulations in various global markets, particularly in sectors like food, drugs, and cosmetics. The primary distinction lies in their target audience and value proposition. AppsByB offers peace of mind by safeguarding store data and streamlining multi-store management, while Tru Identity Compliance mitigates the risk of non-compliance and helps merchants navigate complex international regulations. AppsByB's strength lies in its backup and data synchronization capabilities, evident from its features relating to backups, data selection and data syncing. Tru's value is in automatically identifying applicable regulations, issuing notifications, and providing supply chain transparency. While both fall under the 'Operations - Other' category, their functional areas are significantly different.

Our Verdict
For merchants prioritizing data security, efficient store management, and the ability to seamlessly sync data across multiple storefronts, AppsByB: Backup & Restore is the clear choice. Its backup and data synchronization features address a fundamental need for operational resilience and scalability.
Conversely, for merchants selling products in regulated industries such as food, drugs, or cosmetics, particularly those operating in multiple international markets, Tru Identity Compliance is essential. The app automates a complex and potentially risky aspect of business, ensuring compliance with ever-changing regulations and mitigating import risks. While AppsByB is valuable for a broader range of Shopify merchants, Tru Identity Compliance is a niche but critical tool for specific industries.
