Arc: llms.txt vs ATAI ‑ AltText.ai AI Alt Textfor Shopify (2026)
Arc: llms.txt and ATAI ‑ AltText.ai AI Alt Text both address Shopify SEO, but target drastically different aspects. Arc focuses on visibility within Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, by automatically generating and hosting an `llms.txt` file. This positions it as a future-facing tool designed to capitalize on the growing influence of AI-driven search and content generation. Its key strength lies in its automated, one-click approach to making a store discoverable by these emerging platforms. It targets merchants who want to be at the forefront of AI SEO. By contrast, ATAI concentrates on improving traditional SEO and accessibility through AI-powered generation of alt text for product and blog images. ATAI's core value proposition revolves around automating a time-consuming task – writing effective alt text – which directly benefits both search engine rankings and ADA compliance. It's a more established SEO tactic, making it appealing to a broader range of merchants, particularly those prioritizing accessibility and established SEO practices. While Arc is aimed at AI search engine optimization, AltText.ai is aimed at optimizing accessibility and traditional search engine optimization. The number of user reviews is drastically higher for ATAI indicating more widespread adoption, but the higher rating for Arc, while from a smaller sample, may indicate a better user experience. Both apps are designed to be easily integrated, although ATAI provides bulk updating capabilities. The ideal choice depends on the merchant's specific SEO strategy and resources.

For merchants primarily concerned with maximizing their visibility in emerging AI platforms and are comfortable adopting cutting-edge SEO techniques, Arc: llms.txt is the more suitable choice. Common Questions
What is an llms.txt file and how does it differ from a robots.txt file?
According to Arc: llms.txt, an llms.txt file is like a robots.txt file for Large Language Models. While robots.txt directs web crawlers for traditional search engines, llms.txt is meant to guide LLMs like ChatGPT on what content from your site they should index and use. It's a new concept designed for AI-driven content retrieval.

Is Arc: llms.txt a long-term SEO solution, or is it speculative?

How much control does the merchant have over the alt text generated by ATAI ‑ AltText.ai?
ATAI ‑ AltText.ai offers customizable settings to control when alt text is added, and it uses keywords from product name, brand, and description. This implies some degree of control over the generated alt text, but the extent of customization may vary.
Which app is more beneficial for small stores with limited resources?
ATAI ‑ AltText.ai is probably more beneficial for small stores with limited resources. It automates a proven and time consuming activity and focuses on improving accessibility of their store, which has long term value. Although Arc: llms.txt automates the process of creating an llms.txt file, its long term value has not been proven and may not have immediate returns.
