AskDolphin: Live Chat & AI vs RetainIQfor Shopify (2026)
AskDolphin: Live Chat & AI and RetainIQ, while both categorized under Shopify's 'Support - Other', address entirely different aspects of customer interaction and retention. AskDolphin positions itself as an all-in-one customer service platform, focusing on immediate support through live chat, AI-powered responses, and connection of physical products via QR codes. Its core strength lies in providing readily available assistance and team management tools for handling customer inquiries. RetainIQ, on the other hand, concentrates on personalized marketing through email and SMS, aiming to foster meaningful 1:1 user experiences and increase customer lifetime value. Its strength lies in leveraging shopper behavior and multiple data sources to create highly targeted communications. The primary difference lies in their approach to customer engagement. AskDolphin is reactive, responding to customer needs in real-time or providing automated solutions for common queries. RetainIQ is proactive, aiming to anticipate customer needs and deliver personalized communications that encourage conversions and build loyalty. AskDolphin targets merchants needing robust customer service tools for immediate support, while RetainIQ serves merchants focused on data-driven, personalized marketing campaigns. The fact that AskDolphin has no ratings or reviews at all is a major red flag compared to RetainIQ's excellent rating based on a substantial number of reviews.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on improving their immediate customer service capabilities – providing quick answers, resolving issues in real-time, and offering 24/7 after-sales support, AskDolphin *could* be a contender, if it had any reviews to suggest it delivered on those promises. However, given its lack of ratings and reviews, it's a considerable risk. Therefore, at this time, and based on this data, it is not recommended.
RetainIQ is the clear choice for merchants seeking to leverage personalization in their email and SMS marketing to drive conversions and increase customer lifetime value. Its high rating and multiple positive reviews indicate a reliable and effective solution for building meaningful customer relationships through targeted communication. The easy setup and provided support further enhance its appeal, making it a strong recommendation for e-commerce stores focused on data-driven marketing strategies.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Based on the descriptions, RetainIQ emphasizes easy and quick setup with support provided, while AskDolphin does not specify the ease of setup.
Does AskDolphin offer features to improve customer retention?
While AskDolphin focuses on resolving customer issues promptly, leading to *potential* retention improvements, it doesn't directly address retention through personalized marketing campaigns like RetainIQ does.
Can RetainIQ provide support for product-specific questions?
RetainIQ's strength lies in personalized marketing messages based on customer behavior and data. It's not designed to handle product-specific customer support inquiries like AskDolphin's live chat and AI capabilities.
Which app is better for a small business with limited resources?
RetainIQ, given its high rating, customer support and emphasis on ease of use, may be better suited for a small business with limited resources. However, the price point of each app is not specified, which could also influence the decision.
What happens if a customer has a complex technical question that the Dolphin AI can't answer?
AskDolphin's description includes real-time chat features and team management, implying the possibility for a human agent to intervene when the AI is unable to answer a question. However, more detail on escalation procedures would be needed.
