AW Store Locator vs OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POSfor Shopify (2026)
AW Store Locator and OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS, despite sharing the 'Selling in person' category on Shopify, serve vastly different purposes and target distinct merchant needs. AW Store Locator focuses on enhancing the customer experience by enabling businesses with multiple physical locations to easily display and manage their stores on their website. It emphasizes location discoverability and customization, featuring functionalities such as auto-detect location and map style color customization. The app appears straightforward to implement for merchants looking to improve their online-to-offline conversion rate. On the other hand, OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS is a highly specialized app designed for Shopify POS merchants in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It directly addresses the complex legal requirements for fiscalization, ensuring compliance with KassenSichV and RKSV regulations through features like secure receipt signing, Z-reports, and audit-ready data exports. OpenFiskal prioritizes legal compliance and accounting efficiency within the DACH region's stringent fiscal environment. While AW Store Locator is concerned with enhancing user experience and driving traffic to physical stores, OpenFiskal concentrates on streamlining administrative tasks and preventing legal issues related to point-of-sale systems. The common category 'Selling in person' simply means both apps can be relevant to businesses using Shopify POS, but their core functionalities and value propositions are divergent. AW Store Locator provides functionality for customers to find a physical store, whereas OpenFiskal ensures the in-person transaction is legally compliant.

Our Verdict
The choice between AW Store Locator and OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS is straightforward based on the merchant's specific needs. If your goal is to enhance your customer's ability to find your physical store locations and you operate a business with multiple locations, AW Store Locator is the clear choice. Its focus on customization and ease of use for managing and displaying locations makes it ideal for improving the customer experience and driving in-store traffic. However, for Shopify POS merchants operating in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland (DACH region), OpenFiskal TSE & RKSV for POS is essential. The app is designed specifically to address the complex fiscalization regulations in these countries. It offers crucial compliance features that are legally required for point-of-sale systems. Without OpenFiskal (or a similar solution), businesses risk facing significant legal penalties. A merchant outside the DACH region has no need for OpenFiskal, whereas DACH region merchants who sell in person absolutely require a similar solution.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Based on the descriptions, AW Store Locator likely offers a simpler setup process due to its focus on visual customization and store management. OpenFiskal might involve a more complex setup as it integrates with fiscal authorities and requires specific configuration to ensure compliance.
Can I use both apps simultaneously?
Yes, technically you could, but the benefit would be limited. AW Store Locator could help customers find your physical stores, while OpenFiskal handles transaction compliance within those stores in the DACH region. One does not depend on the other.
Which app provides better ROI for increasing sales?
AW Store Locator is intended to directly contribute to increasing sales by driving more foot traffic to physical stores. OpenFiskal primarily focuses on legal compliance, although by doing so, it prevents potentially large fines or penalties, thereby preserving profits. It's an indirect benefit.
Does AW Store Locator help with SEO?
Potentially. If you create location pages using the store locator, it could contribute to local SEO by providing relevant information for search engines to index, especially if coupled with local business schema markup. However, the description does not directly state it is intended to improve SEO.
What happens if I don't comply with fiscalization regulations in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland?
Failure to comply with KassenSichV and RKSV regulations can result in substantial fines and legal penalties. OpenFiskal aims to prevent such risks by ensuring that your Shopify POS system adheres to the necessary fiscalization requirements.
