B2stock: Back In Stock notify vs Materials Inventoryfor Shopify (2026)
B2stock: Back In Stock notify and Materials Inventory, while both classified under Shopify's 'Inventory' category, cater to vastly different merchant needs. B2stock focuses on capturing demand for temporarily unavailable products by offering back-in-stock notifications and pre-order functionalities. It's positioned as a tool for retaining customers and preventing lost sales due to stockouts by providing automated email alerts when products are replenished. Materials Inventory, on the other hand, is designed for makers and manufacturers requiring robust management of raw materials and finished goods. It emphasizes real-time inventory synchronization, profitability tracking, and efficient purchase order creation. The primary distinction lies in their target user and core functionality. B2stock targets merchants aiming to manage customer communication and sales recovery for out-of-stock items. It allows for unlimited subscribers and emails, with features to personalize email templates and throttle sending rates. Materials Inventory is aimed at businesses involved in manufacturing or assembling products, allowing them to manage raw materials, track costs, and prevent overselling. It offers dynamic inventory updates, profitability insights, and purchase order automation. One is focused on the customer (B2stock) and the other on the business itself (Materials Inventory).

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with preventing lost sales when products are temporarily out of stock and keeping customers engaged, B2stock: Back In Stock notify is the better choice. Its unlimited subscriber and email features, coupled with customizable email templates, make it a strong option for customer communication. However, if a merchant is involved in manufacturing or assembling products and requires a comprehensive system for managing raw materials, tracking costs, and preventing stockouts, Materials Inventory is the superior solution. Its real-time inventory synchronization and profitability tracking are essential for this type of business.
Given the lack of pricing information, a full recommendation is difficult. However, based on features alone, Materials Inventory provides more critical functionality to merchants assembling goods. B2stock is important, but addresses the *consequences* of poor materials management, not the management itself.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a dropshipping business?
Neither app directly caters to dropshipping. However, B2stock might be useful for products that periodically go out of stock with the supplier. Materials Inventory is unlikely to be relevant unless the dropshipper is assembling products themselves.
Does B2stock help prevent stockouts?
No, B2stock only helps manage customer communication and sales recovery *after* a stockout has already occurred. It doesn't offer features for predicting or preventing stockouts.
Can Materials Inventory be used for subscription boxes?
Yes, Materials Inventory can be used to manage the raw materials and finished goods for creating subscription boxes. It helps track the inventory of each component in the box and calculate the profitability of each subscription.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Without user reviews discussing ease of use, it's difficult to say definitively. Materials Inventory mentions 'intuitive & easy to use,' but this is subjective. B2stock's functionality is simpler, suggesting potentially easier setup.
Does either app integrate with accounting software?
The provided data does not mention any integrations with accounting software for either app. This information would need to be obtained from the app descriptions or developer documentation.
