Back In Stock! Alert Engine vs Preorder, Back In Stock ‑ STOQfor Shopify (2026)
Back In Stock! Alert Engine and Preorder, Back In Stock ‑ STOQ are both Shopify apps designed to help merchants recapture lost sales due to out-of-stock items. However, they cater to different needs and offer varying levels of functionality. Back In Stock! Alert Engine, with its perfect 5/5 rating, appears to be a simpler, potentially more streamlined solution focused primarily on back-in-stock notifications. Its small number of reviews (11) suggests it's either a newer app or caters to a very niche segment. Preorder, Back In Stock ‑ STOQ, boasts a much larger user base (2132 reviews) and a broader feature set. It's positioned as a comprehensive solution encompassing pre-orders, backorders, and restock notifications with capabilities like partial payments, B2B preorders, and Klaviyo integration. This suggests a focus on more sophisticated inventory management and marketing strategies, targeting merchants looking to generate revenue even before items are officially in stock. STOQ's support for multiple locations, markets, and integrations suggests that it is targeting larger businesses or those with complex operations, while also potentially offering a more complex setup and configuration process.

Our Verdict
For smaller Shopify merchants primarily concerned with simple back-in-stock notifications and ease of use, Back In Stock! Alert Engine might be a good starting point. Its higher simplicity will likely suit shops where configuration and customization are less important than fast deployment. However, the very low number of reviews should give pause.
For larger businesses or those requiring advanced features such as pre-orders, partial payments, Klaviyo integration, and multi-location support, Preorder, Back In Stock ‑ STOQ is the clearly superior choice. While it might involve a steeper learning curve, its comprehensive feature set and proven popularity (as evidenced by the high number of reviews) make it a more robust and scalable solution for maximizing revenue and customer engagement.
