Backup Labs vs Bureau Fraud Preventionfor Shopify (2026)
Backup Labs and Bureau Fraud Prevention are both Shopify apps listed under the 'Security - Other' category, but they address fundamentally different aspects of store security. Backup Labs focuses on data protection and disaster recovery, offering automatic backups of products, orders, themes, and other store data, with secure storage in Switzerland. It aims to protect merchants from data loss and simplify store duplication for testing. Bureau Fraud Prevention, conversely, tackles transaction security by analyzing orders for fraud indicators like customer reachability, address completeness, and past behavior. Its objective is to reduce fraud losses and provide actionable insights to merchants concerned about fraudulent orders. One targets data recovery; the other fraud detection. The merchant's greatest pain point will dictate the correct choice. Backup Labs serves all merchant sizes, while Bureau Fraud Prevention is likely more valuable for larger stores with significant fraud exposure.

Our Verdict
Backup Labs is the clear choice for merchants prioritizing data security and wanting a safety net against data loss or corruption. Its automatic backups and easy restore functionality provide peace of mind. The lack of reviews for Bureau Fraud Prevention makes it difficult to recommend, but its potential value lies in reducing fraud losses for larger stores heavily impacted by fraudulent transactions. A store primarily worried about data security and business continuity, especially regarding accidental data loss, should prioritize Backup Labs. A store heavily targeted by fraud, where losses outweigh backup concerns, should investigate Bureau Fraud Prevention thoroughly before making a decision. Waiting for reviews from other merchants on Bureau Fraud Prevention would be advisable.
