BackupMaster: Backup & Copy vs Cavalierfor Shopify (2026)
BackupMaster: Backup & Copy and Cavalier are both listed under the 'Security - Other' category on the Shopify App Store, but they address entirely different aspects of store security. BackupMaster focuses on data security and disaster recovery, offering automated backups, restore capabilities, and store duplication. Its core value proposition is peace of mind by ensuring that store data can be recovered in case of errors, accidental deletions, or other unforeseen events. Cavalier, on the other hand, targets security breaches related to compromised user credentials. It focuses on monitoring a website's domain for compromised employee and user data, alerting the merchant to potential account takeovers or data leaks. The primary difference lies in their approach to security: BackupMaster provides *proactive* security through backups, enabling recovery *after* a problem occurs, while Cavalier provides *reactive* security by identifying potential security breaches *as they happen*. BackupMaster's value is further enhanced by features such as SOC 2 certification, scheduled downloads, and Google Drive sync. Cavalier's value is tied to the effectiveness of its threat intelligence and its ability to provide timely alerts. A key factor is the existence of user reviews. BackupMaster has a perfect 5/5 rating based on 109 reviews, suggesting a strong positive user experience. Cavalier, in contrast, has no reviews, making it difficult to gauge its performance and user satisfaction.

Our Verdict
BackupMaster is the clear choice for most Shopify merchants. Its automated backup process, combined with the ability to restore data, makes it a critical app for ensuring business continuity. The positive reviews and SOC 2 certification further strengthen its appeal. It's a foundational security measure that protects against a wide range of potential data loss scenarios.
Cavalier is more specialized and likely beneficial for larger organizations with a significant number of employees and customers where compromised credentials pose a higher risk. However, the lack of reviews makes it difficult to recommend without further validation. Merchants considering Cavalier should carefully evaluate the app's integration with their existing security protocols and assess the potential cost savings from preventing account takeovers versus the app's subscription price. BackupMaster should be a higher priority for most merchants due to the broad coverage of potential threats and its strong user reviews.
