Bad Customer vs Chargeback Specialistfor Shopify (2026)
Bad Customer and Chargeback Specialist both address the problem of fraud within a Shopify store, but take fundamentally different approaches. Bad Customer focuses on *preventing* fraud by identifying potentially problematic customers *before* an order ships, primarily by leveraging chargeback history from other sites. This approach is proactive and aimed at avoiding potentially costly and time-consuming disputes. Chargeback Specialist, conversely, focuses on *managing* and *resolving* chargebacks *after* they occur, utilizing AI and human review to craft compelling responses and recover lost revenue. It also aims to prevent future chargebacks, but its primary function is dispute resolution.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with preventing fraudulent orders before they ship and willing to rely on external chargeback history, Bad Customer offers a potentially simpler solution. Its features like flagging orders to PO Boxes or mismatched billing/shipping addresses add extra pre-shipment layers of security. However, given the lower rating and limited number of reviews, merchants should approach with caution and potentially explore alternatives.
Chargeback Specialist is better suited for larger or faster-growing stores that experience a significant volume of chargebacks and prioritize revenue recovery and automation. The higher rating, the AI-powered dispute responses, and human oversight make it a potentially more robust solution for dealing with complex chargeback cases. While the review count is low, the perfect score suggests high user satisfaction amongst those who have used it.
