Barcodeator ‑ Customer QR Code vs Stockist Store Locatorfor Shopify (2026)
Barcodeator - Customer QR Code and Stockist Store Locator, while sharing the 'Selling in person' category on Shopify, cater to entirely different needs. Barcodeator focuses on streamlining in-store customer identification and order linking via QR codes and barcode generation, supporting Apple Wallet/Google Wallet for smoother checkouts, and allowing customer metafield conversion for use across POS systems. Its primary strength lies in enhancing customer privacy and simplifying the checkout process by minimizing reliance on manual data entry. Stockist, on the other hand, is all about physical location discovery. It provides merchants with tools to create a customizable store locator map, aiming to drive in-store sales by helping customers easily find physical stores, retailers, or dealers carrying their products. It offers features for managing store listings, customising the map's appearance, and analysing search patterns. The core difference lies in their objective: Barcodeator optimizes the in-store *transactional* experience, focusing on the point of sale and customer data handling. Stockist focuses on the *pre-transactional* experience, helping customers locate physical stores before they even begin to shop. Their target audiences are therefore distinct: Barcodeator targets merchants with physical storefronts seeking efficient and privacy-focused POS solutions, while Stockist targets merchants with one or more physical locations who want to improve discoverability and drive foot traffic to those locations. The vastly different number of reviews also suggests a much larger market for store locator apps than for customer QR code generators, highlighting the broader applicability of Stockist. The very low number of reviews for Barcodeator (only 3) suggests it is either a very new app or a niche solution. While a 5/5 rating is good, the small sample size means this rating might not be completely representative of the app's long-term performance. Stockist's rating of 5/5 with 273 reviews inspires more confidence.
