Beacon Fraud Prevention vs Chargeback Specialistfor Shopify (2026)
Beacon Fraud Prevention and Chargeback Specialist are both Shopify apps in the Fraud category, but they approach fraud mitigation from different angles. Beacon Fraud Prevention focuses on *preventing* fraudulent orders before they occur by analyzing various data points and allowing merchants to customize fraud filters and automate actions. Its strength lies in its customizable analysis and preventative measures against various types of fraud, potentially appealing to merchants who want fine-grained control. On the other hand, Chargeback Specialist concentrates on *recovering revenue* lost to chargebacks and fraudulent disputes, using AI and human review to build compelling responses. Chargeback Specialist distinguishes itself with its emphasis on chargeback recovery through AI-powered dispute responses and human review, making it suitable for merchants already experiencing a high volume of chargebacks. While both apps touch on prevention, Chargeback Specialist's primary value proposition lies in disputing and winning chargebacks. Beacon offers a broader approach to fraud detection encompassing various suspicious behaviors, which may lead to more flexibility, but possibly higher upfront customization effort. Ultimately, the best choice depends on whether a merchant prioritizes proactive fraud prevention or reactive chargeback recovery.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with preventing fraud *before* it happens and who want a high degree of control over the fraud detection process, Beacon Fraud Prevention is likely the better choice. Its customizable filters and ability to track various suspicious behaviors allow for fine-tuning. However, if a merchant is already experiencing a significant number of chargebacks and needs help disputing them effectively and efficiently, Chargeback Specialist is the clear winner. Its AI-powered dispute responses, coupled with human review, provide a strong solution for recovering lost revenue. The ease of one-click activation also makes it appealing for merchants who need a quick and simple solution to chargeback management.
Given the limited number of reviews, it's important to also consider factors outside the app descriptions, such as support documentation and responsiveness from the app developers before making a final decision. A trial period, if offered, would also be beneficial for determining which app best fits your specific business needs.
