BIG Digital Downloads Products vs Custom & Draft Orders For POSfor Shopify (2026)
BIG Digital Downloads Products and Custom & Draft Orders For POS are Shopify apps targeting distinct merchant needs, despite sharing the 'Orders' category. BIG Digital Downloads Products focuses on enabling merchants to sell digital goods, offering features like unlimited storage, download limits, license key sales, and PDF stamping. Its high rating and large number of reviews suggest strong user satisfaction and reliability for businesses selling digital products, positioning itself as an alternative to file-sharing services and platforms like Etsy. In contrast, Custom & Draft Orders For POS tackles the complexities of managing draft orders within the Shopify POS system, allowing merchants to create, manage, and integrate draft orders directly into their POS workflow. Its lower rating and review count indicate a potentially niche audience or areas for improvement. It simplifies POS interactions, addressing the difficulties many face in managing draft orders. The key difference lies in their focus: BIG Digital Downloads Products addresses digital product sales, while Custom & Draft Orders For POS optimizes POS order management. BIG Digital Downloads Products appeals to creators and businesses selling ebooks, software, or digital assets, while Custom & Draft Orders For POS caters to brick-and-mortar stores and businesses using the Shopify POS system. Therefore, the choice depends heavily on whether the primary need is digital product delivery or improved POS functionality.

Our Verdict
For merchants primarily focused on selling digital products like ebooks, software licenses, or digital art, BIG Digital Downloads Products is the clear choice. Its higher rating, abundant reviews, and feature set specifically designed for digital product sales offer a comprehensive solution. The unlimited storage and download limits are valuable for scaling a digital product business.
However, if a merchant's primary concern is improving the draft order workflow within their Shopify POS system, Custom & Draft Orders For POS is the better option. Although it has fewer reviews and a lower rating, its specialized features for creating, managing, and integrating draft orders into the POS cart address a specific pain point for brick-and-mortar stores. Merchants should consider their core business model when choosing.
Common Questions
Can I use both BIG Digital Downloads Products and Custom & Draft Orders For POS together?
While both apps share the 'Orders' category, they serve different purposes. Using both simultaneously is unlikely to create conflicts, but they don't directly integrate with each other. You would use BIG Digital Downloads Products for digital product sales and Custom & Draft Orders For POS for managing in-store orders through your POS system.
Is BIG Digital Downloads Products suitable for selling software licenses?
Yes, BIG Digital Downloads Products explicitly supports selling license keys and serial keys, making it well-suited for software sales. It allows you to deliver the software file and the license key upon purchase.
Does Custom & Draft Orders For POS work with all POS hardware?
The app description states that it works within the Shopify POS device, which implies it is compatible with hardware certified for use with Shopify POS. Check the app documentation for a list of officially supported POS hardware.
How does BIG Digital Downloads Products compare to using Google Drive or Dropbox for digital downloads?
BIG Digital Downloads Products is integrated directly into your Shopify store, automating the delivery process after purchase. Google Drive and Dropbox require manual sharing and order tracking. BIG Digital Downloads also allows for more control over downloads, such as limiting the number of downloads or the time frame in which the file is available, and you can stamp PDFs. BIG Digital Downloads Products facilitates direct sales, integrating the download process seamlessly with payments, inventory management, and other store features.
What are the potential downsides of using Custom & Draft Orders For POS with a high order volume?
Although the app's description mentions improving POS workflow, without more data, there may be limitations to how Custom & Draft Orders For POS handles a high draft order volume. A large number of draft orders could potentially impact performance when searching, editing, and managing orders within the POS system. Merchants with high POS order volumes should trial the app to gauge performance.
Can I sell physical products with BIG Digital Downloads Products?
While the app *could* potentially be used to provide documentation, instructions or other digital extras for physical products, its primary use case is for the distribution of digital-only products. You would still need to manage the physical product sales and shipping separately. It is not a physical product management app.
