Our Verdict
For merchants primarily concerned with blocking unwanted traffic, saving bandwidth, and implementing basic redirection based on country, Blokr Country Redirect & Block *might* be a starting point, however the complete lack of reviews is a major concern. Geolocation Orbe is the clearly superior choice for merchants focused on expanding their global reach and optimizing the customer experience for international shoppers. Its integration with Shopify Markets and Global-e, along with its customization options, makes it a more powerful tool for businesses seeking to tailor their store to different regions and increase conversions.
Given the significant rating and review disparity, and the focus on global expansion which is generally more valuable to Shopify merchants, Geolocation Orbe is the recommended choice for the vast majority of Shopify merchants. Blokr might be considered only if budget is an extreme constraint *and* security/blocking is the sole priority, but the lack of validation raises concerns about its reliability and efficacy. Proceed with extreme caution if selecting Blokr.
Common Questions
Which app is better for a store that only ships within one country?
Geolocation Orbe is likely overkill, as its primary function is to optimize for international customers. Blokr's features may be beneficial if you are receiving bot traffic from other countries, but due to its zero rating it is not recommended. A different app entirely might be best. If the store caters to a niche market that sees heavy international bot traffic, Blokr *might* be considered. Otherwise, consider finding a different app.
Does Blokr Country Redirect & Block integrate with Shopify Markets?
Based on the provided descriptions, Blokr does not explicitly integrate with Shopify Markets. It functions as a standalone app for blocking and redirecting visitors based on country. Geolocation Orbe offers explicit Shopify Markets Integration. However, due to its non-existent rating and review data it is difficult to provide any definitive answer for the app’s capability.
Which app offers more customization options?
Geolocation Orbe offers significantly more customization options. It allows merchants to customize the geolocation popup and country selector directly from the theme editor, translate the popup, use dynamic variables, and set up markets geolocation settings. Blokr offers basic redirection but no customization of the redirection experience.
How do the apps handle marketing attribution when redirecting customers?
Geolocation Orbe explicitly states that it maintains attribution parameters of marketing campaigns during redirect. Blokr's description does not mention marketing attribution, implying it may not preserve this data during redirection. Preserving attribution is essential for analyzing marketing ROI.
Which app is easier to set up and use?
Blokr claims easy setup with no coding required, however, this claim is unsubstantiated due to its zero rating and review status. Geolocation Orbe, with its integration into Shopify Markets, is likely more involved to set up initially but is better supported with 250 reviews, which at least proves that it's installed and running by several merchants.
