Bony: Checkout Rules & COD vs Shopify Checkout Blocksfor Shopify (2026)
Bony: Checkout Rules & COD and Shopify Checkout Blocks both address checkout customization on Shopify, but cater to fundamentally different merchant segments and needs. Bony focuses on providing granular control over the checkout process for *all* Shopify merchants by enabling rules for payment and shipping methods based on product, region, customer, and order value. Its strength lies in its accessibility to a wider range of users and its core value proposition of mitigating risks associated with COD, optimizing payment methods, and creating a smoother checkout experience through intelligent rules. Shopify Checkout Blocks, conversely, is primarily designed for Shopify Plus merchants, unlocking powerful customization options for the Thank you and Order status pages, along with advanced checkout modification capabilities. While offering checkout customization features similar to Bony (hiding, renaming, reordering payment and delivery methods), its key differentiator lies in its focus on custom content blocks, fields, order/shipping discounts, and address validation, all available exclusively for Plus users. It aims to enhance the post-purchase experience and provide advanced control over the checkout flow, features typically needed by larger, high-volume merchants with dedicated resources for customization.

Our Verdict
For standard Shopify merchants seeking to improve their checkout process, minimize COD risks, and implement basic shipping and payment rules, Bony: Checkout Rules & COD presents a clear and accessible solution. Its wider availability and targeted feature set make it a practical choice for smaller businesses looking to optimize their checkout without the complexity or cost of Shopify Plus.
Shopify Checkout Blocks, on the other hand, is an ideal fit for Shopify Plus merchants who want to deeply customize their checkout experience, enhance their post-purchase interactions, and leverage advanced discount and address validation features. The app is useless for non-Plus merchants. While its potential is vast, it requires a Shopify Plus subscription and likely dedicated resources to fully leverage its advanced capabilities.
