B&S ‑ Add Custom Code vs DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Toolfor Shopify (2026)
B&S ‑ Add Custom Code and DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool, while both listed under the 'Storefronts - Other' category on the Shopify app store, cater to fundamentally different needs. B&S ‑ Add Custom Code aims to empower merchants to insert custom code (HTML, CSS, Javascript, Liquid) into their store without extensive programming knowledge, facilitating integrations like Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel. DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool, on the other hand, focuses on streamlining the development workflow by allowing merchants and developers to compare asset versions, ensuring code integrity and simplifying debugging. The primary distinction lies in their core functionality. B&S prioritizes code insertion and integration, targeting users who need to add functionalities or tracking scripts to their store. DiffMate concentrates on version control and code comparison within the existing codebase, appealing to developers and technically proficient merchants seeking to maintain and improve their store's performance through careful asset management. B&S boasts an 'intuitive interface' for all skill levels, while DiffMate implicitly targets users comfortable with managing assets and understanding code differences. The difference in user reviews and ratings also highlights a large divergence between the apps, which must be considered when picking between the two.

Our Verdict
Choosing between B&S ‑ Add Custom Code and DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool depends entirely on the merchant's technical expertise and needs. For merchants who simply need to integrate tracking pixels, add custom CSS, or insert small code snippets without deep coding knowledge, B&S ‑ Add Custom Code *seems* like the more appropriate choice, given its stated ease of use. However, the lack of reviews raises concerns regarding its reliability and functionality.
For developers or technically adept merchants who actively manage their store's codebase and require version control and comparison tools, DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool is the clear winner. While it might not be suitable for novice users, its focus on asset management makes it invaluable for ensuring code integrity and efficient debugging.
Common Questions
What level of coding experience is needed for each app?
B&S ‑ Add Custom Code claims to be suitable for users of all skill levels, implying minimal coding experience is necessary. DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool requires a solid understanding of code, asset management, and version control.
Can I use both apps together?
Yes, in theory. B&S ‑ Add Custom Code could be used to inject code into the store, while DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool can be used to manage and compare the underlying asset code that produces the pages where you add the code. However, be careful when combining the two apps, particularly when adding and editing the same sections/assets.
Is either app suitable for A/B testing?
B&S ‑ Add Custom Code could be used to insert code for A/B testing platforms. DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool would not directly facilitate A/B testing but could help in managing and comparing the different code variations used in those tests.
Which app is better for improving site speed?
DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool could indirectly improve site speed by helping developers identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in the codebase. B&S ‑ Add Custom Code could potentially negatively impact site speed if poorly optimized code is added.
Are there security risks associated with using either app?
B&S ‑ Add Custom Code presents a potential security risk if malicious or poorly written code is inserted. Users should only add code from trusted sources. DiffMate ‑ Asset Compare Tool primarily focuses on asset comparison and is less likely to introduce direct security vulnerabilities, but vulnerabilities could always be introduced. Always check the integrity of your code.
