B&S ‑ Add Custom Code vs Puco Sections: Theme Sectionsfor Shopify (2026)
B&S ‑ Add Custom Code and Puco Sections: Theme Sections, while both falling under the 'Storefronts - Other' Shopify category, cater to fundamentally different merchant needs. B&S ‑ Add Custom Code targets merchants who want granular control over their store's code, enabling them to insert custom JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Liquid code. Its primary strength lies in its flexibility, allowing for deep customization and integration of third-party services like Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel, requiring a degree of technical proficiency. However, its lack of reviews raises serious concerns about its reliability and usability. Puco Sections: Theme Sections, on the other hand, is designed for merchants who seek to enhance their store's functionality and visual appeal without delving into coding. It offers a library of pre-designed sections and blocks that can be easily integrated into the Theme Editor. Its strength lies in its ease of use, extensive section library, and focus on speed and performance. It is explicitly aimed at entrepreneurs who want to focus on business rather than get bogged down in technical complexities.

Our Verdict
For merchants who are comfortable with coding and require precise control over their store's functionality and integrations, B&S ‑ Add Custom Code *might* be an option, but the lack of reviews makes it a risky choice. Thoroughly test its functionality on a development store before implementing it on a live storefront.
However, for the vast majority of Shopify merchants who lack coding expertise and want a quick and easy way to enhance their store's design and functionality, Puco Sections: Theme Sections is the clear winner. The positive reviews, extensive section library, and focus on ease of use make it a much more reliable and efficient choice.
Common Questions
Which app is better for integrating Google Analytics?
B&S ‑ Add Custom Code allows direct insertion of the Google Analytics code. Puco Sections does not directly support this, but may offer sections that indirectly support analytics tracking. B&S might be better for specific tag implementation, but given its lack of reviews, testing is essential.
Which app is easier to use for someone with no coding experience?
Puco Sections is significantly easier to use. It is designed for non-technical users and integrates directly with the Theme Editor. B&S requires coding knowledge to effectively utilize its features.
Which app is more likely to slow down my store?
Poorly implemented custom code in B&S ‑ Add Custom Code could negatively impact store speed. Puco Sections is designed for performance and speed. However, any app that adds sections can impact performance so it's important to check load times.
Which app offers better ongoing support?
Puco Sections explicitly mentions a focus on support and customization. B&S does not provide any information regarding support.
If I only need to add one specific element, which app is better?
If the element can be implemented with a pre-built section or block, Puco Sections is likely the faster option. If it requires custom code that Puco Sections doesn't support, and if you have the technical skills, then B&S ‑ Add Custom Code might be the only option, despite the risk.
