Buy Button channel vs Facebook & Instagramfor Shopify (2026)
The Buy Button channel and Facebook & Instagram app both fall under the Marketing and Conversion categories on Shopify, but they cater to vastly different needs. Buy Button focuses on embedding direct purchase options onto external websites and marketing channels, granting merchants fine-grained control over presentation and linking. Facebook & Instagram, conversely, is about leveraging Meta's platforms (Facebook and Instagram) for sales, providing a streamlined process for showcasing products and managing sales within those ecosystems. The key difference lies in the sales channel and the control offered. Buy Button provides flexibility in integrating Shopify products into existing external websites, blogs, emails, and direct messages, allowing merchants to build sales funnels outside of social media. Facebook & Instagram centralizes product sales within those two platforms, using Meta's advertising and shopping features to reach new customers. While both apps can increase sales, Buy Button aims to bring the sales process outside Shopify, while Facebook & Instagram leverages the immense reach and shopping features within Facebook and Instagram.

Our Verdict
For merchants who already have established websites or blogs and want to seamlessly integrate Shopify products for direct purchases, the Buy Button channel is a great choice. Its customization features allow for consistent branding across platforms. It's also suitable for those who want to experiment with selling directly through email and DMs with custom links.
On the other hand, the Facebook & Instagram app is ideal for merchants seeking to grow their business within the Meta ecosystem. With its seamless product synchronization, powerful advertising tools, and streamlined in-app shopping experience, it simplifies selling on these platforms. The significantly higher number of reviews, despite a similar rating, suggests a broader user base and possibly a higher perceived value for merchants heavily invested in Facebook and Instagram marketing.
