Buy Button channel vs Shopify Formsfor Shopify (2026)
Buy Button channel and Shopify Forms, while both categorized under Marketing and Conversion, address fundamentally different needs. Buy Button channel focuses on facilitating direct sales from external platforms like websites, blogs, and social media. It allows merchants to create customizable 'Buy' buttons and checkout links that integrate seamlessly with their existing online presence. Its strength lies in simplifying the purchase process by enabling immediate transactions outside the main Shopify store, targeting merchants already driving traffic from external sources. In contrast, Shopify Forms is geared towards lead generation and customer data acquisition within the Shopify store itself. It empowers merchants to create customizable forms to capture information like email addresses, wholesale inquiries, and customer preferences. The core difference lies in their primary objective: Buy Button channel aims to convert existing traffic into sales immediately, while Shopify Forms focuses on building a customer base and gathering insights for future engagement. Buy Button channel is best suited for merchants with a strong external marketing strategy and a need to facilitate purchases outside of their main store. Shopify Forms is ideal for merchants prioritizing customer acquisition, data collection, and personalized marketing within their Shopify ecosystem. The two apps could even be used in conjunction - Buy Button channel to make sales from blog content, and Shopify Forms to capture email addresses from blog readers.

Our Verdict
The choice between Buy Button channel and Shopify Forms depends on a merchant's specific needs. If the primary goal is to monetize existing traffic from external websites, blogs, or social media platforms with quick and easy checkout options, Buy Button channel is the better choice. Its strength lies in providing immediate purchase opportunities outside the main Shopify store.
However, if the merchant is primarily focused on growing their customer base, collecting valuable customer data, and building a strong foundation for personalized marketing, Shopify Forms is the more suitable option. While it doesn't directly drive sales, it provides the tools to capture leads, segment audiences, and nurture relationships, ultimately leading to increased conversions over time. A newer merchant with less external traffic is probably better off investing in Shopify Forms first.
