BuyerCheck vs Chargeback Specialistfor Shopify (2026)
BuyerCheck and Chargeback Specialist, while both falling under the 'Fraud' category in the Shopify app store, address distinct pain points for eCommerce merchants. BuyerCheck focuses on mitigating losses from failed Cash on Delivery (COD) orders by predicting buyer risk using AI at the checkout stage. Its core value lies in preventing these losses before they occur by allowing merchants to disable COD, request prepayment, or manually review risky orders. Chargeback Specialist, on the other hand, centers on recovering revenue lost due to unfair chargebacks and fraudulent disputes. It employs AI-powered dispute responses, enhanced by human review, to build robust defenses against chargebacks. The primary difference lies in their focus: BuyerCheck is preventative for COD fraud, while Chargeback Specialist is reactive and also preventative for chargeback fraud. BuyerCheck targets merchants heavily reliant on COD payments, particularly those in regions where COD is a common payment method. Chargeback Specialist is designed for fast-growing eCommerce brands and high-volume stores dealing with a significant number of chargebacks, emphasizing automation and revenue recovery in such scenarios. Chargeback Specialist also has elements of prevention built in, such as fraud dispute analysis, although this is not as upfront as BuyerCheck's prevention method.

Our Verdict
For merchants heavily reliant on Cash on Delivery and experiencing significant losses from failed COD orders, BuyerCheck seems like a logical first step. Its focus on prevention could save considerable money. However, the lack of reviews raises concerns and warrants careful consideration and possibly thorough testing during a trial period if available.
Chargeback Specialist is better suited for larger, high-volume stores frequently dealing with chargebacks. The combination of AI and human review provides a compelling solution for recovering lost revenue and preventing future disputes. The perfect rating and positive reviews (albeit few) suggest a reliable and effective app. Therefore, if chargebacks are a significant issue, Chargeback Specialist is the clear recommendation.
Common Questions
Does BuyerCheck prevent chargebacks like Chargeback Specialist?
No, BuyerCheck specifically addresses failed Cash on Delivery orders, not chargebacks. Chargeback Specialist focuses on disputes related to credit card payments or other chargeback-eligible payment methods.
Which app is easier to set up?
Based on the descriptions, Chargeback Specialist appears to be easier to set up, boasting 'One click Activation. No technical setup required.' BuyerCheck doesn't explicitly state the setup process.
Which app uses AI more effectively?
It's difficult to definitively say which app uses AI 'more effectively' without deeper analysis. However, Chargeback Specialist uses AI to learn from the outcomes and adapts to your business, this suggests an ongoing improvement in their AI, making Chargeback Specialist appear to have the more mature AI implementation, but more data would be needed to confirm.
If I use both COD and credit card payments, which app should I choose?
If both COD and credit card fraud are problems, consider a combination of solutions. BuyerCheck is suitable for solving COD fraud, and Chargeback Specialist would be suited for credit card fraud and chargeback mitigation. If budget is a concern, assess which represents the greater financial loss and tackle that first.
Why does BuyerCheck have no reviews?
The lack of reviews for BuyerCheck could indicate several things: it might be a very new app, it might have a small user base, or it might have had issues preventing users from leaving reviews. This requires merchants to exercise extra caution.
