By the Numbers: AI Analytics vs Grapevine Post Purchase Surveyfor Shopify (2026)
By the Numbers: AI Analytics and Grapevine Post Purchase Survey take very different approaches to improving a Shopify merchant's business. By the Numbers positions itself as an all-in-one AI-powered analytics suite, aiming to improve LTV, retention, and marketing personalization through automated insights and integrations. It focuses on proactive data analysis, identifying key trends and opportunities with the help of an AI assistant and even access to 'real data experts'. It targets merchants seeking a comprehensive, data-driven approach to business growth via deep analytics. Grapevine, on the other hand, centers on collecting and analyzing customer feedback at scale through surveys. Its core value proposition is unlimited survey responses at a fixed price, enabling merchants to gather extensive data on customer satisfaction, attribution, and overall experience. The crucial distinction lies in the data source and methodology. By the Numbers leverages existing Shopify data combined with external marketing platform data to predict and personalize. Grapevine actively seeks customer feedback via targeted surveys to understand customer sentiment and drivers of behavior. Grapevine's unlimited response model is particularly appealing to high-volume stores, while By the Numbers' AI-powered analytics offers more value for stores seeking proactive insight generation. While both apps fall under 'Analytics' and 'Operations' on Shopify, their functionality and target users are vastly different. Both apps integrate with popular tools like Klaviyo. However, By the Numbers specifically integrates with more marketing platforms, while Grapevine integrates with tools for greater survey automation.

Our Verdict
If you're a merchant struggling to understand your existing data and want an AI-powered solution to surface actionable insights and personalize marketing, By the Numbers: AI Analytics is the better choice. Its comprehensive analytics suite and expert support can help you identify opportunities for growth and optimize your marketing campaigns. If you prioritize directly gathering customer feedback and need a scalable solution for collecting surveys at a predictable price, Grapevine Post Purchase Survey is the clear winner. The unlimited response model allows you to gather extensive customer insights without worrying about exceeding usage limits.
For stores heavily focused on Net Promoter Score (NPS) and gathering feedback through various survey types (post-purchase, CSAT, etc), Grapevine offers the stronger focus. While By the Numbers can likely incorporate customer satisfaction metrics as part of its LTV calculations, it doesn't specialize in the survey-centric approach of Grapevine. A well-established business with complex data silos could benefit significantly from 'By the Numbers' expert support, while a new or rapidly growing business could be more efficiently served by Grapevine's direct feedback loop.
