C Builder | Checkout Upsells! vs Essential Upsell & Cross Sellfor Shopify (2026)
C Builder | Checkout Upsells! and Essential Upsell & Cross Sell both aim to boost Average Order Value (AOV) through upsells and cross-sells, but cater to distinct merchant segments. C Builder is explicitly designed for Shopify Plus merchants, leveraging Checkout Extensibility to offer highly customized checkout experiences. Its strength lies in providing complete control over the checkout flow with drag-and-drop blocks and conditional logic, enabling bespoke branding and messaging. Essential Upsell & Cross Sell, on the other hand, targets a broader audience, offering a wider range of upsell and cross-sell options across different touchpoints, including product pages and cart drawers. It boasts a significantly larger user base, indicated by the vastly higher number of reviews. Its versatility and focus on pre- and post-purchase upsell opportunities position it as a more accessible solution for merchants of all sizes. Essential Upsell does not customize the checkout page, but rather adds upsells on product and cart pages.

Our Verdict
For Shopify Plus merchants seeking complete control over their checkout experience and the ability to create highly branded and customized checkout flows, C Builder | Checkout Upsells! is the clear choice. Its Checkout Extensibility integration offers a secure and upgrade-safe solution for optimizing the most critical stage of the customer journey. However, merchants not on Shopify Plus or those prioritizing ease of implementation and a broader range of upsell and cross-sell locations should strongly consider Essential Upsell & Cross Sell. Its extensive features, coupled with a large user base and positive reviews, make it a reliable option for boosting AOV without requiring extensive customization or technical expertise. It adds upsells in more locations than C Builder, but does not modify the checkout page at all.
