Calcurates: Accurate Shipping vs JsRates: Custom Shipping Ratesfor Shopify (2026)
Calcurates: Accurate Shipping and JsRates: Custom Shipping Rates both aim to solve shipping rate challenges for Shopify merchants, but they approach the problem from fundamentally different angles. Calcurates positions itself as a comprehensive shipping management solution, offering out-of-the-box integration with major carriers, advanced table rates, and rule-based shipping configurations. It emphasizes accuracy and cost-effectiveness by bridging the gap between displayed and actual shipping costs. Its target audience is likely merchants who want robust carrier integrations and a wide range of pre-built shipping calculation options without custom coding. JsRates, on the other hand, caters to merchants with highly specific and complex shipping requirements that cannot be met by standard shipping apps. It empowers users with the flexibility to craft custom shipping rates using JavaScript, enabling integration with third-party APIs, spreadsheets, and various Shopify data points like metafields and tags. The app focuses on providing unparalleled control and adaptability, particularly appealing to Shopify Plus merchants or those with advanced development skills. While Calcurates offers a wider feature set out-of-the-box, JsRates provides virtually unlimited customization possibilities through coding.

Our Verdict
For most standard Shopify stores seeking accurate shipping rates and pre-built integrations, Calcurates: Accurate Shipping is likely the better choice. Its carrier integrations, table rates, and shipping rules provide a comprehensive solution without requiring coding knowledge. The larger number of reviews also suggests wider adoption and potentially a more established support ecosystem.
However, if you have highly specific and unusual shipping requirements that standard apps can't handle, and you possess JavaScript development skills (or have access to a developer), JsRates: Custom Shipping Rates offers unparalleled flexibility. It's especially suitable for Shopify Plus merchants who need to integrate custom logic and external services into their shipping rate calculations.
Common Questions
Which app is easier to set up?
Calcurates is generally easier to set up for standard shipping scenarios due to its pre-built carrier integrations and intuitive interface. JsRates requires JavaScript knowledge and custom coding, making it more complex to configure.
Can I use both apps at the same time?
No, you can only use one shipping rate app at a time in Shopify. You will need to choose the app that best suits your overall shipping strategy.
Which app is more scalable?
JsRates is potentially more scalable for businesses with extremely complex and evolving shipping needs, as its JavaScript-based customization allows for virtually unlimited flexibility. However, scaling Calcurates effectively is highly dependent on the available customization options.
Which app is better for international shipping?
Calcurates explicitly mentions 'duties & taxes, multi-origin shipping, rates by vendor' as key features, suggesting a stronger focus on international shipping. JsRates can handle international shipping through custom API integrations, but requires more effort to set up.
Does either app offer real-time tracking?
Neither app description explicitly mentions real-time tracking. However, Calcurates' carrier integrations likely facilitate tracking data, while JsRates would require a custom integration with a tracking API.
